which distortion/overdrive pedal would you reccomend for a versitile sound, but mainly for a bluesy southern rock sound (think the black crowes and zeppelin)?

for bluesy/southern rock, I would definitely say Ibanez TS9. though I'm sure some will say Boss Blues Driver. I had a BD, it was just not my cup of tea.0

I think we should take a step back, and FIRSTLY get a tube amp. If you have the cash, I would reccomend a Traynor YCV40.Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Try a BD-2 Blues Driver & TS-9 Tube Screamer
I like my BD-2 best, which is a bit more transparent and not as mid-rangy as the TS-9.
My TS-9 is a bit thinner sounding, but it's still really good.
Robert Keeley also likes the BD-2 better than the TS-9 http://www.robertkeeley.com/product.php?id=14
There's a sound clip for the BD-2 at the top of the page.
I don't think he turned the gain very up much on this clip - a lot more gain can be had.
I'm able to nail a "dazed and confused" Led Zeppelin tone with my BD-2.

Distortion?-BOSS DS-1
Overdrive?-BOSS SD-1 or TS-9
Mixture?-BOSS BD-2...it's got a tube feel PLUS it can be CRANKED for distortion. Also, the Fulltone '69 is really nice and usual amp OD(Fender anyway) is good-gotta have that tube amp thoughGrand Rapids '04, Detroit '06
JEFF HARDY AND JEFF AMENT USED TO LOOK THE SAME

Haha, so many different replies. The original poster is gonna be confused as hell, I know I would be! Anyway, my pick is the Marshall Guv'nor. It's a fantastic pedal that nails that Marshall tone, great for low-gain and high-gain stuff, especially Zeppelin.0

i think i'm going to go with the boss bd 2. thanks for all your help.0

Good for you, wise choice. For God's sake, though, get a Keeley version. It's not a Greedtone, nor is it a Fulltone, but it comes closer than most and for not many more dollars than a stock one.scot88 wrote:i think i'm going to go with the boss bd 2. thanks for all your help.0 -

Pro Analog Dual Drive. Marc Ford used one with his Roccaforte last time I saw them on tour.
BD2 will work out just fine for you.My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -
would this BOSS BD-2 you all speak highly off enhance the sound on my VOX AD30VT greatly? I've been looking for a bluesier, grittier sound, and am definitely leaning toward buying this. It would be my first pedal.MSG 7/8-7/9/03 -- Boston 9/28/04 -- Hartford 5/13/06 -- Boston 5/24-5/25/06 -- MSG 6/24-6/25/08 -- Hartford 6/27/08 -- Philly 10/31/09 -- Hartford 5/15/10 -- Boston 5/17/100

They sounded pretty good with the Peavy Transtube amps I have heard them with, so I can assume if you're wanting an od to go with that amp, yeah it's a good choice.
The BD2 and SD1 from boss are both worth trying out with your amp.
If the BD2 dosen't quite float your boat the SD1 probably will.My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -
