Studio Question

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am looking to know what I need exactly to basically build a home studio? I don't need the most expensive equipement out there, but I would like something that will allow me to record professionally sounding songs at a reasonable price, and will last. I don't have a home computer and currently, I am only recording vocals and guitar work on an analog 4 track recorder with a cheap mic. I have over 7 years DJing experience before I started guitar, so I am pretty familiar with how to work a mixer. I'm just not really sure what to purchase. There are so many choices and so much software out there. I would want something that perferably combines computer software and actual mixers. I'm not real knowledgeable about this stuff so was hoping someone would be able to lend a hand. Thanks a lot.

I think the best thing to do is get a small Pro-Tools rig.
Digidesign Prool-Tools is the industry standard, and even the basic MBox2 rig can be expanded or even plugged into a larger rig at a big studio later. Yeah, you'll need to spend a few $$ on a computer, but basic MBox2 Pro-Tools rig only costs $450 (and you can get it a little cheaper if you work it). However, after you've spent the $$ on a good digital recorder & preamp, you'll have actually spent the same. You can get out the door on a Computer & basic Pro-Tools rig for around $1300, and now you've got a setup that can be expanded as your needs expand (not like a digital recorder that will be outdated in a year or two) - Cheers . . .

Not really sure, but I plan most likely getting at least a 16 track mixer to allow for multiple instruments or even if I get my band together.Alpine Valley 06-13-99 [EV-Solo]

16 channels of quality audio is going to be tough to swing on a tight budget. Not saying it can't be done...just saying that it's going to be very hard.
I'd look at going with a stereo recording setup...2 channels at most.0
