Come Back Solo Question

I really like this song. I love how it starts out with a blues progression then morphs into something country. It would not sound out of place on a Blue Rodeo album. But then comes the solo. While the rest of the band is still doing the country based thing the solo comes across as blues based.
I don't understand the solo in the song. To me the song is crying out for Stone to lay down a cow-punk solo or Mike to go classic country-rock a la Rolling Stones. Up until the solo I thought the song was building nicely then it falls flat.
Am I missing the beauty of the solo and how it fits the song? If so, can you explain it to me?

when it hits you, you feel to pain.
So brutalize me with music.”

I love the solo actually, I think that the song builds and builds and then when Mike comes in and shreds...that's what pushes it over the top"I Miss You Already!!!!!"

I love Stone's little transition phrase right before Mike comes in. What Stone does makes Mike's solo.0
