I went to Samash a couple weeks ago intending to buy a cheap Alesis for $500....and ended up with a Roland TD3 for $1050 with an additional 2 year warranty. Why?
Because I thought the Alesis was a piece of crap. Not only were the heads like "plastic", the triggers were horrible. I also looked at a Yamaha DTXpress IV (not the version you are looking at) and maybe the set was just beat, but it couldn't keep up with the bass pedal and the hats missed triggers as well.
My best advise is to go down there and try them ALL a few times each. I already have an acoustic set and just wanted something to play quietly, but man, I slip on the headphones, hook up the ipod and play along for hours.
I love my Roland!
My only regret is not buying one years ago.
There is a guy on here with a Roland TD20....look it up.....I played on one and it is BADASS
here is mine http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemPos=6&TempID=7&DepartmentID=4&STRID=20520&CategorySubID=33&CategoryID=33&BrandID=0&CategorySubPriceRangeID=0&pagesize=10&SortMethod=3&Method=3&PriceRangeID=0&SearchPhrase=&Contains=&Search_Type=Department&GroupCode=&categorysubsearch=trueIf a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?0 -
I've heard the Rolands were pretty much the way to go if you want an electric set. They even have models now where the heads feel just like acoustics.0

I'd suggest this one http://www.music123.com/item/expandedimage.aspx?t=4&img=Roland/495636jpg.jpg . It's far from cheap, but I prefer the toms to have mesh drums pads, rather than the traditional pads.
Plus it's just awesome all around!0 -
You CAN also buy a real set and then buy these: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Vic-Firth-Drum-Set-Mute-Prepack-447689-i1140088.gc
Just a thought. When no one is around you can take em off and play on a real set, nothin wrong with that.5/28/06, 6/27/08, 10/28/09, 5/18/10, 5/21/10

That is THE best electronic drum set around at the moment. If you're looking for the best, that's it. And I've gotta say, within this area there is a HUGE difference in quality between the best and the rest.

^^ Same one that Red Lukin posted, tells you more about the model, specs, etc.I pledge to you a government that will not only work well, but wisely, its ability to act tempered by prudence, and its willingness to do good, balanced by the knowledge that government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us blinds us to its great power to harm us.

Yep that's right. I didn't just go the the best Roland kit and say "this one".
There's a huge price difference between the TD-20S V and the TD-12S, but I think the TD-12S would be plenty for many of us. I'm just waiting for the day for when my fiance says "I've had enough of those loud drums!" and wants to buy me an electronic kit ; )
Here's a pic of my kit if interested (currently stuck in the basement) http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b179/leafsfan7524/Posters/?action=view¤t=IMG_0550.jpg0 -
