PJ Unlpugged vs Nirvana's
Hello All,
Just curious to get some feedback on the above topic. I have always wondered what PJ would've been w/ Cobain as a front man instead of Vedder, but that another discussion in itself. I personally have always felt Nirvana's unplugged set T bagged PJ's , anyone else felt the same? Thoughts...

I've seen enough shows to know I like them...

PJ would be non existent because Cobain's repetitive lyrics and dull sound would kill the band quicker than he killed himself.0 -

I don't recall offhand, but weren't the majority of Nirvana's songs on that show merely cover songs?CONservative governMENt

6 of 14 - kind of like your typically PJ encores.SHOW COUNT: (170) 1990's=3, 2000's=53, 2010/20's=114, US=124, CAN=15, Europe=20 ,New Zealand=4, Australia=5

Pearl Jam's was good, Alice In Chains' was better, Nirvana's is the best of the three.0

With veterans like Ament and Gossard, who been in multiple bands and behind the scenes for many many years, I think it gave Vedder a better/easier ruote as a lyricist/songwriter. Cobain had too much pressure and too much control with Nirvana.PJ- 04/29/2003.06/24,25,27,28,30/2008.10/27,28,30,31/2009

Nirvana's was clearly better. One of the best recordings of all time.0

BTW, Nirvana's unplugged was best by far.PJ- 04/29/2003.06/24,25,27,28,30/2008.10/27,28,30,31/2009

I think Nirvana's is only more popular in the public eye because it has that mystique of being only months away from his suicide. And before his first step... He's off again...0

perhaps it more popular in the public eye because it was actually released as a CD awhile back and a DVD last year. And as I added earlier I think it is indeed better.SHOW COUNT: (170) 1990's=3, 2000's=53, 2010/20's=114, US=124, CAN=15, Europe=20 ,New Zealand=4, Australia=5

Nirvana's unplugged is better by a landslide.0

It's an unfair fight, Pearl Jam only had Ten at the time, not much to work with. Nirvana had 3 albums behind them when they performed. They were also at totally different times, Pearl Jams was when they were rising to total fame. Whereas Nirvanas was when Kurt had gotten to the point of hatred towards the World. The more fair idea would be Benaroya vs. Nirvana's Unplugged in which case they almost tie to me. Nirvana's has a lot of emotion and feeling behind the songs, Pearl Jam at Benaroya has a lot, but not as much. But song wise, Benaroya is a rocking, kick ass album.
On an unrelated note, AIC's beats both Nirvana's and Pearl Jam's. That Nutshell opener is just, God like. I changed as a person the moment my brother put it on and told me I might like better than Nirvana's. He was right. My god its been so long, never dreamed we'd return.0 -
I wasn't taking a cheap shot at Nirvana for this, but it should be in the conversation.
In my opinion, Alice In Chains had the best Unplugged because it was all their music and all done extremely well. PJ's was good mostly because it was their own music done to a different style and still came out good. Nirvana's was good mostly cause it was a different style of music, but in my opinion, playing 6 of 14 songs as covers, it's not the same caliber as doing your own work.
As for PJ doing covers, I don't think it's so bad if they do like 4 covers of like 30 songs in a given show. What other bands tour to their level, constantly change their setlist and have such diverse albums to work from? The answer is hardly any.Indifference wrote:6 of 14 - kind of like your typically PJ encores.CONservative governMENt
