Chords v. Tabs

What would be the preferred method for learning guitar, chords or tabs? Or is it all dependant upon your abilities?

  preferably a tab where they tab out the chord for you

  I preffer chords, that way i can noodle around with the song and make it sound how i think is best.

  I wish I was the 10Club holiday single, the one that never showed up...
