I Got Shit - to solo or not to solo that is the question

Hey guys&girls,
I'm doing some lead parts in a performance of I Got Shit and have a question...
I've noticed there isn't much of a solo on some of the live versions, it's just rhythm jams... the studio version has, in my opinion, an awesome solo (is it by Mr Young?) and I can't decide which to go for... I'm leaning towards the solo..
Is there just heaps of reverb on the studio solo, and some delay... if anyone's got any idea i would love some tips
so.. what do u think?

do the solo if you can find something you like.
neil young did the solo. standard neil sound. heavy distortion, octaved below to really sound nasty, echo and verb.
does your multi-effect have a pitch shifter in it?0 -
hey ex
yeah the multi-effects has a pitch shifter in it... i don't know if i've got octaver effect, i'd love to get that damn sound tho.. i'm gonna wander to my room and get my shit.. everyone's sleepin tho dammit..

if you can, try a mostly dry signal with an octave below mixed in at about 25-30%.
i use a boss octaver and my big muff to do the neil thing.
the pitch shift needs to be before the distortion too.0 -
back again..
what's a dry signal?? and the 25-30% u mentioned.. should that be the effect level?
and damn this pedal but it doesn't let me put the p-shifter before the distortion... oo maybe i'll use the drive from the amp instead of distortion from the pedal?? hmm
so at the moment neil young sounds like an alien hehehe R2D2|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

dry signal = uneffected
your pitchshifter should give you the option of blending in any amount of effect to the dry signal
but yeah, if you can't put the octave before the distortion, it's no good.
just find a good tone you like and concentrate on cooking up a good solo.0 -
thanks mate... yeah will definitely stuff around with it and see what sounds good
could be an idea to get myself an octaver...
anyway.. i'm off to bed..
thanks & g'nite|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

the octaver's a niche effect. i don't use it much. but i bought mine cheap b/c it was used and beaten to hell. but i use it on keyboards too. i like it.0
