Ear protection/ hearing loss

Hey All,
I figure there are many, many musicians in here, so I was wondering what kind of ear protection people use when they play on stage/ practice? Also I know people that practice in a garage or living room all the time and do not where ear plugs, so I was just wondering how long it will take before they damage their hearing? I don't want to damage mine, so I am asking the best way to protect the ears where I can still hear everything normally, what do you all use or do for this situation?

i was todl to go to an ear specialist to get custon earplugs. Supposedly, thats what everyone has. They are a little pircey, but they protect you. See your doctor. You'll be bale ot hear everythign fine, the plugs jsut weed out all the hsit that causes ear damage.8-23-00, 8-24-00, 8-25-00, 11/14/02(letterman), 4-30-03, 6-6-03, 7-6-03, 7-8-03, 7-9-03, 7-12-03, 7-14-03, 9-28-04, 9-29-04. 10-1-04, 3-18-05 (northwest school), 9-2-05, 9-4-05, 9-15-05, 9-16-05, 9-30-05, 10-1-050

cheap earplugs just sound bad - treble and mids mostly... and it sounds shithouse. You can send a little extra (they dont even have to be custom) and get a set of plugs that cut out the volume, but allow you to hear the treble and mids too. i always strayed away from plugs, but the more you practice the better you get, but the more you expose yourself to loud volumes the more at risk you are of loosing clarity in your hearing, so i recently gave in... we all want to be ripping the solo from yellow ledbetter at the age of 80 so theyre well worth itThose who dance are called insane by those who dont hear the music0

This is a very serious subject, I believe MIG has some very important facts about hearing lost in an old post. Whether you spend a $100 for a custom pair, or 20 cents a pack. Just get some and use them correctly. I can't explain how stupid it is not too. Nothing worse then getting woken up in the middle of the night with your ears ringing out of the blue. I waited to long, luckily they aren't as damaged as others. I spent good money for a custom set and they work beautifully.
Just do it!E. Lansing-98 Columbus-00,03,10 Detroit-00,03 (1&2),06, 14 Cleveland-03,06,10 Toledo-04, Grand Rapids-04,06 London-05, Toronto-05, Indianapolis 10, East Troy (1&2) 11, Chicago 13, Detroit 14

I purchased a pair of "musician earplugs" for 6 bucks from musiciansfriend and they just lower the db's i don't notice distorted noises or anything like foam plugs just lower volume!!! I love them, I get a lot of crap from my friends for wearing them at concerts and stuff but the way i look at it i'll be able to hear when i'm 40.I am the Lizard King I can do anything0
