My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

i bought some switches from him. the pedals look interesting. all these variations of the 808 that these guys come up with to try to set themselves apart. i think i would go crazy trying to choose.
there's a girl on geargeek that's gone through like 15 overdrive pedals and still isn't happy.0 -

Ah. Everyone's favorite Canuck is back. Welcome.
It used to be that way in the old days anyway. I never know at first about pedals until after I use them for a while once you understand what it needs (component wise) to sound good. the rest is gravy and marketing and pretty colors. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" none of them are going to replicate an 808. no one's going to purposely make a pedal using lower grade components with a crappy bypass etc. etc.
however, they're all capable of making something that sounds good.
no one's gonna sound like hendrix either unless:
1. they have oodles of talent and sold their soul or something
2. use a nasty old wah with poor bypass and iffy components
3. use a fuzz of the same nature.0 -
yeah but in the old days you might go through 20 808's to get a good one or a whole stock of fuzz faces and they were very tempermental that's why Roger Mayer was so important to the tone of Hendrix, Also the tone has a lot to do with amps running at full volume with a fuzz face with the volume full up and the fact that Hendrix was a damn awesome freakishly good guitar player. Just like SRV. Every thing is virtually a tone variable. Just like in life you have to be happy with what you've got.My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0

i've got myself down to two tone knobs. one on the guitar, one on the BD-2. and then the tone stacks in the amp/POD. nice and simple. i've decided i don't like tone knobs.
and you're right about the QC. the control limits are much tighter nowadays. i think the sounds are "better" nowadays but very few times is the beauty of imperfection captured in the new pedals.
of course, speaking of fuzz, now i'm jonesing for a fulltone 69. luckily, i don't have room on my board for it.0 -

same here for a while now For 125 it's much more attainable than a Fuzz Factory.
the beauty of imperfection is what's captured in tube amps. The voltage sag etc. That's one reason your BD-2 sounds so good. Keeley knows how to get asymetrical clipping at a high fidelity level. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" as long as i don't go back to the 30" pedalboard i made, i'll be fine for pedal temptations. i've actually only been playing acoustic this week.
i love my BD-2. i should bronze it. or at least buy a cheap used BD-2 and replicate keeley's mods (for a backup).0 -
The variable compression rate is pretty sweet, and the true bypass is a nice touch. They at least have something unique about their Tubescreamer-Cola....and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.0

I know what I want, all I need is money. But it is so damned incredibly hard to find the pedals, amps, and guitars that fit your needs and your styles and your sounds. There are literally millions of options, and each has their merits. For me, it's a Fender Tele-Sonic through a pair of Keeley Tubescreamers, an Ibanez digital delay, an MXR Phase 90, into a vintage Fender Bassman or Sovtek Mig head, and out a pair of 4 x 10" cabinets, one with Celestion 30-watt ceramics and one with Weber 35-watt AlNiCo's. I mean, that's a lot of specifics... and I don't have nearly the options of some guitar players out there.
And so, the search for the Holy Grail continues......and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.0 -
we'll be buying and selling and trying stuff out until we die. i think that's just the nature of the beast. you find the 'perfect' sounds and then you kinda live with it for a while and then want to see if you can make it better. it's inevitable.
about the only thing i'm sure of is that i want a tele within 5 feet of me at all times.
and all this time i should have just been taking lessons.0 -
Hi. My name is Dave, and I am a musician. It's been three days since I last bought a major piece of audio gear. But I know I'll fall off the wagon soon. Just yesterday, I saw an old Sovtek amp... I know I have to be strong, especially since I barely have next month's rent. But I can feel myself weakening....and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.0

a guy my fiance works with has a 16yr son that took guitar lessons for a while and then kinda quit. but he's picked it up again and is gong hardcore into it now. anyway, he found out how much crap i have lying around and wants to meet me now.0

Hi my names Paul. I bought a new leather strap last week and a 10 foot George L's cable to hopefully start replacing everything with Goerge L's The week before I bought a new sound card and memory card so I'll get off my ass and start recording. A couple of nights ago I wrote some cool stuff. I still owe money on my recorder, after I pay that off I can by new stuff. Sometimes will power sucks. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -

yeah but you got all the gear. He could teach you some stuff. You could teach him how to make cool noises. Effects can be difficult to master. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0
