found this out now will lookin up PJ songs, i always thought this was just another great ed song so i was quite surprised to see Dave wrote the lyrics for it and that they still play it considering their relationship with him.

    I think he just wrote the riff... and Ed wrote the lyrics as usual.

    That's correct. Ed wrote the lyrics, Dave wrote the main riff.

    No Pearl Jam member other than Ed wrote lyrics for a Pearl Jam song until Stone wrote the lyrics for Mankind.

    Stone came up with the siren-like guitar part, but Dave wrote the main riff.

    oh but i thought whoever's name comes first in the song list at pearljam.com, means that they wrote the lyrics, for example nothingman is ament/vedder and present tense is vedder/mccready

    Nope, I think they just did that randomly.

    Jeff wrote the music to Nothingman and Mike wrote the music to Present Tense, without a doubt. Ed wrote the lyrics to both (as was said before, Ed wrote ALL the lyrics until Mankind).

    You'll need to check the album liner notes to be sure in most cases.

    i think that for most (maybe all) songs on Vs and Vitalogy all 5 band members are credited as writers...and maybe Dave A comes up cos of alphabetically, his surname is first. thats what i always assumed.

    on songs with one writer & lyricist, then its done the other way (eg Ament/Vedder).
