according to an article in Rolling Stone from 2006 - the song is about a stalker that Ed encountered earlier on when he was becoming famous.
    quotes from the article...

"Someone who had severe mental problems & chemical imbalances ended up targeting me & thinking that all the songs were written about her & that I was the father of her two children, & that the kids were products of rape, and that I was Jesus & that Jesus rapes."

"This woman drove her car at fifty miles per hour into the wall of my house & almost killed herself.

"Fear of the stalker - which he cronicled in the track "Lukin" made it hard for Vedder to leave the house & contributed to his reputation as an angry recluse."

(the article is from the June 29, 2006 issue)

Lukin is the guy from Mudhoney - he dedicated the song to him at the concert I was at in 2006 (Arnhem)... Guess he is referring to Lukin's as someplace safe where he can get away.

I cant remember what boot it is, but doesnt Ed refer to Lukin as being a Mayor or something....I thought Lukin was a politcial person..
But since then had heard the stalker theory also......
U would think Lukin would not be a common name....

Best ever line, party my house, too much hooch, buddy rocks his head over to my direction and says when Lukin ended "Dude, that's what it sounds like in my head" spit-taked my Shiner bock. Never forget it, thanks Ed and the boys.
