This song is indeed so, so beautiful. I can honestly say it's the PJ song that has helped me the most. The comfort this one gives is unsurpassed. This song takes tears of sadness and turns them into tears of joy, smiles..... makes you extremely grateful for every little tiny thing. It breaks my heart because of how close to home it hits but it heals it at the same time, ya know? I've never clung to a song so much. :( These lyrics are beyond powerful. Having them carried out by this gorgeous, sincere voice just pushes the comfort to an extreme. The music is also so gorgeous and perfectly written. It's very uplifting & heartfelt. This is definitely a song that is reborn after you loose someone. It helped me through/and continues to help me through a humongous loss more than anything or anyone. It just UNDERSTANDS like no one/nothing else. It SAVES!

::we were but stones, your light made us stars::

::no time to be void or save up on life
you got to spend it all::

    *sigh*

Words that are with me all the time.

If I ever get to experience this one live I already know it's going to be beyond emotional...and just beyond... period. :o

I can't possibly express how much I love this song and how grateful I am for this therapy, this strength that it gives us all. Fuel for the soul right here. A song to live by...a song that gives life.

    I have the

"we were but stones, your light made us stars" lyrics on my arm above nine different coloured stars for the friends we lost at Roskilde.

Gives me a kick in the bum to live each day as it comes.

Pity they didnt play it at the astoria.......
  • When "Binaural" first came out, I could not listen to this track without repeating it at least three or more times in a row. I felt like it was a new direction for Pearl Jam with a softer, mature sound (they would prove me wrong with "Pearl Jam," their latest, which kicks ass in its own right).

The meaning has always escaped me though. I've tried to read it as a "lost love" song, or even about grieving over a close friend's death. I'm always thrown off by the first verse w/ "tricks at the bar" and "...riddles, jokes about war," etc. Is Ed trying to say despite experiencing everything under the sun, nothing's prepared him for losing whoever the "you" is in the song? All interpretations are welcome...

Light Years does get love on this board, but seems like it doesn't get any love on stage, not lately. Can I just say, "Man Of The Hour" deserves the same love, what a great song, especially the first two lines...

i haven't been able to listen to LY all the way through since my dad passed away almost 2 months ago.

the strangest thing is that it was my ringtone for MONTHS! and i changed it (to the the theme from Degrassi Jr. High!) just three days before he died. i can't even imagine what would have happened it i had left it turned on and heard the song after i received the news. i think i would have been destroyed.

i think that i might try to listen to it tomorrow. i need to do it soon.

it is a beautiful song. very insightful, wise, sad, and uplifting.
