I know where your coming from. It took me a long while to even get myself to listen to the song at all. But one day it all just sounded different and I found myself playing it on repeat.

It is always great when you hear an old song and pretty much rediscover it. It is like finding buried treasure!
Oh he fills it up with the love of a girl...

I had always said that Eddie could record the sounds of himself taking a steaming dump and it could end up on an album and most PJ fans would enjoy it. Then I heard "Parachutes," and I thought "see, I was right!" However, once I actually heard the song played live, I developed a new affinity for it, and I actually love the song now.

  • I always liked "Parachutes". The chord progression and strcture throws off less adventurous types. Mike's Brian May bullshit at the end is beautiful.

My best friend would agree with you. He loved that song from the beginning, and his exact words were "They had me at infinitum." Now I hear that sentence in my head everytime I listen to the song.

The way the song flows, to me...it's Beatle like.
  • Couldn't stand it the 1st time I heard it. I still don't like the studio version. But when they played it at the 2nd Boston show, I thought "hey this is pretty good". I have since warmed up to it on the bootlegs.

I love the simplicity of the melody and the minor rythm brakes..
Lyrics are so gentle..almost fragile..I always get the feeling they're going to brake apart..as a heart sometimes do.
The worst enemies of music? Money and Mathematics. Combined with music, they both do the exact opposite of what they're supposed to do. Money makes music cheap, mathematics makes it stupid and predictable.

When it's sung live I'm not sure what the lyrics are. However, I usually think of it as the Pink Cotton Candy song. It's outside the box of their usual sound, if there is such a thing.

I'm listening to Vienna 06 right now, and even though it still reminds me of a carnival and pink cotton candy, I can't deny that it would be a good date in a pizza parlour song, too. :)

    Definitely, mid-sixties Lennon.

Eddie's poetic in that song. How does he think up this stuff?

"And love,... Wish the world could go again with love
One cant seem to have enough
And war,.... Break the sky and tell me what it's for
I'll travel there on my own
And love,.... What a different life
Had I not found this love with you"

i didn't like it at first, but after hearing it live on a boot........i love it!
    the lyrics are amazing

    i especially like these lyrics:

And I don't want to know your past
    But together share the dawn
    And I won't need

    Nothing else
    Cause when we're dead
    We would've had it all

I loved it at Camden 2 06. Vegas 06 is my favorite even though Ed was sick. The amount of heart he put into it to pull it off was amazing.

Instead of people throwing rice or confetti at your ceremony, they could throw those little plastic parachute figures up in the air!

Just a thought, I never said it was a good idea ;)
  • Top 5 all time PJ song easy :D
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
