Not For You

This is probably my all time fav. song. I just love the opening riff, as well as the power chords followed by Mike's solo!! Oh yeah, and we can't forget some brilliant lyrics that Eddie came up with. I've always seen this song as a way to say "fuck you" to anyone. I always see it as being aimed towards posers and people who act like your friends, but they're really not. This song has really applied to me throughout growing up. I also see it as the band saying that they'll only play music for their hardcore fans, and those who love them for their music and not for those who will hear them and act like they're all hardcore about Pearl Jam. At least that's how I've always seen it. Reply if you wish...

One of my favourite's - for the lyrics, musical arrangement and the beginning 'restless soul' gives me the chills.
I interpret the song in different ways. One way is that I see it as a song about young people having their privacy, freedom and youth invaded by authority figures.
Also, I see it as a song asking people to remember what it was/is like to feel powerless, and to show some respect for that (eg. ... I still remember, why don't you - and the change to the studio album lyrics when Eddie Vedder sings it on 03/03/03 Tokyo bootleg).0 -
Yeah, I can really see that interpretation bro. And yeah, the ending to the song, is the best ending to any song I have ever heard!!!"Darth Vader would say 'Impressive'."

Not for you to me is the quintesential grung song. Sloppy, angry, passive/aggresive and deep as john holmes on a 12 year old.0

my only complaint is they didn't give mike a really long solo in it to finish it off.
besides that it is perfect.everything has chains
absolutely nothing's changed
