I watched F1 over the weekend.  Good popcorn movie that I would recommend.  Not a “best picture” if Saving Private Ryan didn’t win.

Sinners … I didn’t realize this was vampire / musical movie.  Not Interested (and I am almost intrigued to see how a vampire / musical was nominated for Best Picture, but it had better be the best darn vampire / musical ever.  Almost intrigued)

You should give Sinners a chance. And it's not "a musical" (I hate musicals). It is largely about music, and the soundtrack is really cool, but it's not people just breaking out into song like in musicals. I actually generally dislike vampire movies, but again, this isn't your typical vampire movie.

It was great! I would not call it a musical. Music is integral to the story, and there are scenes with music in it being played, but I don’t think it fits the definition of musical. It is a movie that crosses a lot of genres, but has a lot to say about the south, music, and what it is like for an African American living in America, both in the past and today.

I also found it to be just a super enjoyable movie. It was a fun experience in the theater on opening weekend.

With the all inclusiveness the Oscars doing now they have definitely widened the options for everything.

I see a bunch of movies that shouldn't be on here but Hollywood doesn't seem to make great movies anymore.

Best picture will go to Sinners or One Battle After Another.

I'm usually not a fan of someone playing two parts in a movie but it was done well in Sinners.

That happened when they doubled the size of nominees in the best picture category. I think they realized only having 5 meant the same type of movie was going to win every year. It got boring.

Top 10 films based on Rotten Tomatoes' popcornmeter rating:
    1. Nuremberg
    2. The Housemaid
    3. Rental Family
    4. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
    5. Solo Mio
    6. Predator: Badlands
    7. Zootopia 2
    8. Eternity
    9. Frankenstein
    10. Weapons

Surprised to see a Predator movie in the top 10

Frankenstein is the only movie to make the Oscar and Popcornmeter top 10.   Based on that logic, Frankenstein is the best picture of 2026.

I thought Frankenstein was pretty good. Amazing design and visuals and costumes, and adequately conjured sympathy. I don't really think it should have been nominated for best picture, but still, not bad.
I think the best of the best film nominations is One Battle After Another.

For years, my mom, my brother, and I would pick all the categories and have a competition.

After mom passed away, we invited a couple of buddies to do it.

I'm compiling all the ballots now.

I feel like my picks are largely chalk. I enjoyed Sinners immensely, but OBAA is gonna take Pic & Dir IMO.

Shallow May tries waaaaaaaay too hard, but I think he gets it.
May your days be long, til kingdom come.

  • I missed the opening sequence. Dang.

My daughter told me that Tim Oh Tay said he “deserved” to win. She believes everything she reads on tik tok, but she claims she saw a video of him saying this. What kind of entitled asshole says they deserve an award?

I seriously doubt he actually said that, but if he did, i don't actually see anything wrong with it tbh. I think it's okay to think you deserve an award that you're nominated for.

I would have probably won an Oscar pool had I played one. The only one i felt disappointed by was best actor. Michael B Jordan was great, but I strongly believe that Leo should have won that.
Is it just me, or were the presenters particularly awkward this year??
