    I'm just not getting up in arms about it because, you know, hundreds of years of slavery. It’s ok to let it slide because white people have historically been shitty to black and brown people.

    So everyone who is not black, even those whites that have zero to do with slavery, gets blamed for what happened in the 1600s and1700s and they are allowed to act in a racist manner against whites. Nice.

    Great that we follow the teachings of the Bible. What a constituency.
    No. No one living is blamed. But through a cascading, system of decision making over those years, and behaviors based on that system that evolved through purposeful choices and random factors, whites were set up to be dominant while blacks and browns were set up to have hurdles of various levels to clear in order to exist. 

    That seems to be the largest disconnect with privilege v. grievance. No white person is really apologizing (heads up JD!), but that’s not what is truly expected. What’s expected is recognition that the system is structured in way the benefit whites people and add an extra (or several) hurdles for POC to jump through. 

    And maybe, if you are directly or indirectly a beneficiary of that structure, you can let stuff roll off your back easier. Fine to wag the finger, but also, don’t take all the umbrage. 

    And if we are talking about the Bible, maybe if we looked at things through other people’s lenses we would have more empathy for their POV and how they come at or feel about things. And sure that means acknowledging certain white people have had a struggle at things. But is it zero sum that those white losses are marginalized POC benefits? Or is it possibly a bigger systemic issue?

    The issue was Maher criticized Chappelle in October for supporting the Saudis by his appearance there. The response was an anti white racist attack and belittling Maher. And Chappelle was smart enough to bring in Hamas because he’d pull in the liberals to support him. They’re sheep, just bring up their darlings and they got your back. Because Maher doesn’t support Hamas he deserved that racist attack. And plenty of thumbs up on this forum. Some good equality there.

    But OK, seriously.  I'm perplexed by Maher.   When I watch clips of his shows, it's like head you win, tails you lose.  I'm either impressed, or I'm WTF?  
    Personally, I more and more avoid most all the talking heads these days because too many people are too easily swayed by their shtick and lose the ability to think for themselves.  But I have to admit, for me Jon Stewart is the exception.  I can't help it, I just love that guy!

    I saw a clip where someone asked Bill what he thought about the MN killing. He kind of brushed it off and said something like "we're here for the awards...not really prepared to talk about that but it was awful and they shouldn't have killed her"....something to that effect.
