NYC Travel - AVOID JFK

La Guardia Terminal B is fantastic.josevolution said:La Guardia is much better these days since they renovated it! Newark is not an option at all for anyone from Long Island crossing over on the cross Bronx is hell on earth
I can't say that I've noticed much difference between Delta and American. I fly American whenever possible as close to the Charlotte hub and have decent status without having their credit card.
I will say this about United. My first flight was delayed and landed a few minutes before my connecting flight was to leave. I got a text after my flight landed that they are holding my connecting flight and asked me to walk directly to the gate. No running through an airport looking like an idiot. Much respect to United on that feature.0 -
Was that an airline issue vs. JFK?Get_Right said:I just got back from the worst travel experience I have ever had. That is close to 35 years travelling internationally. This was by far the worst experience. As some of you know, I travel to Japan. American Airlines. Supposed to leave Sunday at 10 AM. Direct JFK to Tokyo. Then 12:30 PM, then 1:00 AM (yes 1 am WTF). Then 9:30 am today. Now leaving at 4:30pm. I went to the desk, asked for a refund and a meal voucher. JFK is a nightmare as it is under construction. Avoid at all costs. Holidays in NY this year while my family enjoys Japan. I will never book another AA flight. I think all US airlines are the worst. Thanks for letting me vent.0 -
I’ve never had a problem with jfk. But also, it ls usually short domestic flights down to Florida via jet blue.0

Both. It is challenging to deal with airline delays when the facility is a nightmare. The only major city that does not have some kind of express train from downtown to the airport.bootlegger10 said:

My manager at work whose daughter was up here for Xmas had to drive back to Florida because JFK was so bogged down they missed their flight and they were there two hours before boarding time! TSA just sucks and with construction JFK is literally hell to get in & out of, her and her boyfriend rented a car and drove back!jesus greets me looks just like me ....0

I haven't used JFK in years. I've flown into and out of EWR and LGA multiple times in the last few years with no major problems. Sure the usual crap has happenened but nothing to complain about.
Taking the train from the city to/from EWR is easy.
Even taking the bus/subway to/from LGA is easy too.0 -
Much to my chagrin, I have to go back there tomorrow to pick up my son returning from Japan. Of course arriving at 4pm on a Friday. I suggested the bus to GCT but that got shot down as of course his grandmother sent him back with two large boxes of stuff. You know the ones wrapped in synthetic rope with those plastic handles that weigh 30 lbs each? First world problems.

It is going to suck. Big time. But it is part of living in the NYC area and being a dad. Do what you have to do. I should probably leave now to get there by 4.0 -
I hope you left already and the cell phone lot is where I always wait till the passenger is outside of terminalGet_Right said:josevolution said:

It was actually not that bad for a rainy Friday at rush hour. Only 5 hours round trip, including parking and waiting for my kid to clear customs. I did not see a cell phone parking lot for terminal 8. The Uber and black car drivers all pull over on the side of the Belt PKWY.0 -
It’s a general cell lot you can park and be close to all the terminals! There’s only one lot you drive right past it but it’s understandable that place is a mess with all the diversions they have.Get_Right said:josevolution said:
