Louvre Heist

So thieves did a heist on the Louvre where they stole crown jewels which some experts put their value an incalculable (others say $102M).  Initial reports stated thieves used a special hydraulic lift and circular cutting tools to access the jewels (items that turned out to be a cherry picker and a chainsaw).  Reports say 1/3 or the rooms didn't even have functioning cameras.  And the robbers just told security they encountered to scram off.  Which they did.

When I first heard this story, I'm thinking a team from Oceans 11 had to be assembled to pull something like this and the museum had lasers and sharks with lasers to protect them.  And special boring tunnels and ninjas were required to pull it off.  I wasn't picturing this in my mind ...

It's too boring of a heist to make a movie out of ... it sounds like a plan that was devised during a night of bar-hopping.  But a miniseries could probably be devoted to the incompetence involved.  It's not like this museum has been robbed before.

They definitely seem pretty laissez faire about security there, lol. They put the Mona Lisa is a high security glass case after it was stolen the first time, but besides that, I dunno... Maybe Robert Langdon can help them figure this puzzle out.

I was thinking along those lines again. Like Ocean's 14 plot pretty much wrote itself.

They did bring a hoist ladder to get in and out the second floor.  Pretty brazen.

Ridiculously and embarrassingly so. The fact that they were able to do that is pretty crazy to me!

Brilliant move wearing high visibility vests. Folks just figured they were a construction crew.

Didn't they get caught yesterday? Or at least two of them did I thought.

They arrested two suspects about to board a plan to Algeria.  The French police didn't want the info getting out ... apparently they can hold someone for 90 hours without charges.  I don't know if that means they were trying to grill them and catch others before word got out or if they are actually suspects.  Someone leaked the info
