Another milestone for Ukraine on its path to EU membership: Ukraine has completed the bilateral screening with the European Commission! 🇺🇦🇪🇺
The screening, which began in July 2024, was completed swiftly thanks to Ukraine’s determination to advance reforms, harmonize with EU standards, and pursue its aspiration to join the European family.
This stage is a crucial step in the EU accession process. Together with the Commission, Ukraine carefully reviewed every policy area – known as negotiation chapters – to assess compliance with EU law and outline clear plans for alignment. Representatives of more than 70 Ukrainian state institutions participated, including the MFA of Ukraine.
Overall, this bilateral screening has become one of the fastest screening processes ever conducted with any EU candidate country! 🏆
The outcome provides the Commission with a detailed picture of Ukraine’s preparedness for membership and serves as the technical foundation for moving the negotiations forward. Ukraine has now met all the conditions required to open the first negotiation cluster, and the decision is now up to the EU Member States.
