Awareness Campaign - Mike McCready Interview
In the first interview of our IBD Awareness Campaign, Lowell talks with Mike McCready, lead guitarist of Pearl Jam, to talk about life with IBD. He shares openly and honestly about his Crohn's disease, including what happened to Mike when they were opening up for his favorite band, The Rolling Stones.
Mike talks about how much the landscape has changed over the years, from a time when no one talked about IBD, to now, where there’s a growing community and support. They cover everything from the shame and stigma that often come with these diseases to the healing power of music and finding people who understand what you’re going through. 💚
We’re so honored to have Mike help us kick off this series, and so excited to share more conversations like this in the weeks ahead!
Share and help us spread awareness about what it’s really like to live with IBD. The more we talk about it, the less alone people feel.

Awareness Campaign with Mike
Ahead of Oct. 24’s Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Epicure Benefit, Mike reflects on his Crohn’s journey with Lowell Dylan, plus chats the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and advice for aspiring musicians…
As a young person that has IBD and that is trying to do anything in the music business or any type of art: use it for your art. Use the pain and put it into your art. That, and don't let it use you.
You can create something where people will gravitate towards it because everyone has pain. If you can create something beautiful out of that pain, whether it's a song, a painting, piano, and you get something out of it spiritually.
That's what I would say, you know, use your pain. Which is really easy to say, again, when I'm not curled up in bed and in pain. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, I guess is what I'm trying to say.
