there are only two players in the NL hitting .300 or better. Pretty sad cause the leader, Freeman,  is at ,301 and Turner is at .300

Whens the last time that happened?  1968?

I believe so yes, Yaz if i'm not mistaken?

Yes that sounds right. They lowered the mound the next year I believe.

It is weird that nobody is hitting for average.  Freeman is usually a high average player.  Where the hell is Arraez this year? Hes batting 285.  Dude was batting champ 3 years in a row.

Walks are valued much higher than back in the day so guys are more patient at the plate, and yeah they're trying to hit homers. Also the pitchers' stuff is so much better than it used to be (especially bullpen guys), it's way harder to string together a bunch of singles, so they're looking for walks & homers. One more: I bet it was a lot easier to get hits on the old astroturf; the ball just flew on it. If I'm sending Christopher Sanchez & Jhoan Duran out there, I'm letting that grass grow another 2".

In 2004, Bonds led MLB in walks, hit .362 and hit 45 HR....so, these things are not mutually exclusive.

then again, there has only been one Barry Lamar Bonds.

I think I've posted this here before. But what if Ozzie Smith took today's hitting approach.
? He was a decent hitter so the average would probably be below .200.  But at least he would have an extra 10-15 career homeruns

If a guy isn’t capable if hitting 30+ homers in a season they shouldn’t be swinging for home runs.

There is no such thing as a two strike approach these days,  they swing as hard and for the fences with two strikes as much as any other counts.

In some cases analytics is failing sports

tell that to my “no 30 HR season since 2004” Giants.

    thank you.

    Shohei has 45 HR.

Raleigh has now set the single season record for HR's by a catcher.  In case you haven't followed him he's been the best hitting catcher the past 3 years.

Judge will still win the MVP though.

Shohei will win his 4th MVP.

Walks are just as good as getting a hit (still SHOULD hold true today).

I wouldn't say just as good. Maybe 3/4 as good. You can't score from 1st on a walk.

Man the Phillies cannot do anything right at citifield. It’s incredible to see a ballpark have such a hold over a really great Phillies team.
