Voting Redistricting or Gerrymandering

I'm sure everyone has heard the news and all the districts looking to change the voting landscape in whomever is in powers' favor.
This has been going on forever and nothing new but it is dominating headlines now.
Texas had the dems leave so it couldn't happen. Newsome in Cali is doing so too.
I would expect more of the same. Isn't this autocracy too though?

I’d give more concern to this if one party, who currently run the country weren’t openly being autocratic with a fascism bent.So my response is, I guess this is just part of the game now. Do I wish things were better and more fair, absolutely.0

Both sides have been involved in redistricting and gerrymandering in the past and will continue into the future and it''s only news now because Trump (or whatever juvenile name of the day is) is back in office?

i hate partisan gerrymandering from either side. drawing of the districts should be independent.
but if texas and red states are going to fuck around mid decade like this to give themselves more seats, then the democrats need to fight fire with fire and blow it all up and do the same.
our system cannot continue the way it is with one side cheating to keep an advantage.
if it is good for the gop, it is good for the dems, and newsom should guarantee that california will give the dems the edge. other blue states need to follow suit.
if trump and the gop are going to be lawless, the dems need to as well. otherwise the dems will never win another election, even though they only lost by 1% of the popular vote in 2024."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."0 -
While true gerrymandering has been going on since the days of Elbridge Gerry, in the past it has generally happened after a census, not on the eve of mid-term elections. That is the part folks should focus on. Abbott and Trumpstello are trying to change the rules in the 5th inning of the game. This weekend we rock Portland0

Yeah the real problem is that it is happening just to stack odds for the elections, instead of it being done after census as has been standard practice.Scio me nihil scire

I also want to put out there that Newsom sucks, but its nice to see him dogging Trump and playing some hardball as opposed to Schumers strongly worded letters.

If the GOP does it, fine.
If the Dems do it, fine.
Dems should do everything in their power to ensure success for the party.

I think people didn't have a real problem with it and treated it as business as usual (which is bad, but also typical for the US). But once a borderline fascist party took control and started dismantling structures of governance started backing doing this, some red flags became more visible.
