“Who You Are,” featuring lyrics by Eddie Vedder and music co-written by Jack Irons and Stone Gossard, was released on July 30, 1996, as the first single from the band’s fourth studio album, No Code. EV played an electric sitar on the song, giving it an Eastern-influenced sound. In 1997, EV spoke about recording with Irons: “We realized that we had an opportunity to experiment. For instance, everyone has written that ‘Who Are You’ was obviously inspired by my collaboration with Nusrat, but that’s not where it came from.”Indeed, it came from Irons.Said Irons: “I’d been playing that [drum pattern] since I was eight. It was inspired by a Max Roach drum solo I heard at a drum shop when I was a little kid.”To date, “Who You Are” has been played live 45 times.0

Jack Irons, Anthony LoGerfo and Micah Nelson team up for Barking Dog, a new project rooted in rhythm, friendship, and a shared love of Neil Young and dogs. Recorded at Jack’s home studio and mixed by Adam Hawkins, the EP blends meditative grooves, experimental drums, and Micah’s signature sonic textures. @jackironsdrummer @anthony_logerfo_ @particlekid

Jack Irons: grooves, trippy vibes, and elemental love
Jack Irons just dropped news of his new project Barking Dog, born from a collab with Anthony LoGerfo (Promise of the Real) and Micah Nelson AKA Particle Kid (yeah, Willie Nelson’s son).
Their debut EP Elements drops August 15 via Loosegroove Records. It was recorded in Irons’ home studio and features meditative rhythms, experimental sounds, and psychedelic vibes.
Each track is inspired by a natural element, and the band’s name is a shoutout to their dogs — Charms, Plato, and Tsuki.
