It is bizarre....if CBS is doing this to get the merger approved that is seriously disturbing

Or maybe just because Colbert sucks and his show isn't funny.

I don't find him entertaining all the time but if he has a #1 show then why in D hell would you cancel it?

They must want a Fallon type that pleases everyone.

Late night comedy TV was originally developed to help America wind down at the end of a tough day, put all the politics and hatred and bullshit we are subjected to behind us, so we could get a good night's sleep, wake up the next morning and begin a fresh new day.

we have EVERYTHING to watch now. We don’t need to be so beholden to the norms of yesteryear. If your feelings get hurt by comedians, there’s literally anything else to watch in its place in 2025.

Clearly the market has dictated what it’s wanted in programming, including late night TV. This move is seemingly going against what the market wants.

Also if you watch them, you know they attack Dems too. It just so happens conservatives are a plentiful low hanging fruit so the harvest is gonna be more of that.

You know who here is absolutely clueless (what else is new). Watch old Johnny Carson. He was relentless in attacking Reagan.

If anything, Colbert will land somewhere else and hopefully he gets his Report teeth back.

But don't you always attack the president?

These days I find Colbert and Kimmel just as funny as Gutfeld: none of them are funny anymore, often going after people’s appearance.

Answer’s simple to me, I just don’t watch any of them. I still miss my favourite late night host, Craig Ferguson.

I get what he is saying though.  If you say that everything is in your face then you get shamed for even saying that now. He's not gonna win any argument on here that's for sure.

I don't know of any non-political late night hosts?

so to be clear, we should not make jokes about the political environment?

Or is it we need to be fair and spread the jokes about politics evenly among all parties?

He joked about Biden being old all the time. He had Elizabeth Warren on when she was running for president and shredded her in an interview. I'm a big Warren supporter - she got mauled.

I've said this about Fallon, he is safe and DOES NOT push the envelope.

I do miss Trevor Noah.  He did political humor very well.

Colbert had been hitting CBS pretty hard recently...gotta be a factor. I hope he torches them every day until he's done.

Apparently the show loses $40million a year which is wild given the content. So maybe it is economical to cancel.

    #1 late night show.

    Definitely not.

All a matter of personal taste, bud.  I'm a big fan, myself.

Like Carlin eventually did, I think Colbert has gotten more preechy.

What can I say?  I'm grateful we have had them both.  Be glad for that because at the rate things are going, being able to express certain opinions and saying things other people don't like is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

Apparently costs $100m to produce. Staff of 200 - Colbert himself gets $15-20m. Head staffers/writers $500k+ a lot of money for limited viewership in grand scheme of things. Not sure how long been losing $ but I guess a very long time….

    SHOW COUNT: (170) 1990's=3, 2000's=53, 2010/20's=114, US=124, CAN=15, Europe=20 ,New Zealand=4, Australia=5
