Pull yourself up by your bootstraps, dontcha know?
Need help feeding your family? Forget about it, put 5% in the bank. Need help paying for medicine or healthcare? Forget about it, put 5% in the bank. Need pre-school or after school care so you can keep one or two of the three jobs you might have to scrape by? Forget about it, leave the kids in the car, at home or with a friend or neighbor so you can save 5%. Need help getting educated with knowledge or skills so you can find a better paying job? Forget about it, put 5% in the bank. Need reliable public transportation so you can get to your one or three jobs? Forget about it, walk or ride a bike so you can save 5%. Need reliable high speed interwebs so you can find information, apply for jobs or sell shit you make? Forget about, walk to the library, local flea market and job fairs and employment offices so you can save 5%. Need help getting birth control or an abortion for health or financial reasons? Forget about it, don’t have sex and save that 5%.
You’re on your own.
You like to call me out. I am still paying for my education. 30+ years later. But I find a way to save $1-2 out of every $20 I make. It sucks. But when I am 70 and have something, big or small, to fall back on, I will be a happier person.
I'm calling out your "one size fits all" or "black and white" approach. And as you admitted, your white privilege. What you've been able to accomplish and how you've been able to accomplish it is vastly different for the majority of 'Muricans.

It's not one size fits all. It is a simple message. Save some of what you earn. There is a broad spectrum as to what that means based on each person's situation. I do not come from wealth nor do I come from poverty. You want a condo with a pool when you retire? Save some money. That is all.

Best advice I ever received and it wasn't from my parents. That said, a lot of "Muricans are living pay check to pay check. Speaking of which, how's the price of eggs?

I live paycheck to paycheck, but even a small bit goes to savings even though not having that cash hurts. $3.99/dz for basic large white eggs from the supermarket. $10/dz from the local farm. Many options in between. We eat a lot of eggs. It is the price of good fish and beef that is out of hand.

Americans need to tighten their belts, learn to manage their money better (I already listed several ideas for that), and learn the difference between want and need. In 1996, I was living on $600 a month. Once a month I went to Jack in the Box and bought a $1.29 chicken sandwich as a treat so I would not feel so low. I buckled down, got my shit together, and now live a modest but comfortable life, including having a house and savings. If I could do all that after turning 50, almost any younger healthy person can.
I wish I had the youth and energy to do a financial/life planning seminar with my wife for younger people who want to make a decent life for themself.
Realtor was over Saturday. I served him coffee my wife picked up in Italy a few weeks back, some cannoli, and some cookies. Haha
We crunched numbers, signed papers, discussed fees, etc. He has the house on a "private listing", which I am sure most here are familiar with. On open market by Friday I'm guessing.
Realtor said he should have it sold in 30 days or less.
We will see
Take me piece by piece..... Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
Another thing that cracked me up when I showed house to friend. He brought his wife and in laws with. Great. They all loved it.
The mom in law.....stood in my living room and said a prayer....she literally said a prayer that her daughter bought my house....
THEN 4 SECONDS LATER she says to me..
But you must lower the price! You have to lower the price!
At no fucking time, not once, not ever, had a price been discussed with anyone involved. NOBODY, including my friend and his wife, had any clue what I was asking.
But mommy declared, 'You MUST lower the price"!!!!!
Kathy and I have laughed for days I imitate mom every 20 minutes Hahaha

I thought with the prayer and all that god would lower the price. By speaking to you, maybe in a dream? Perhaps threaten you with cold rain every day of your existence in Flo Rida unless you know, lowered your price so the believers would continue to believe. No?

Yeah, well you MUST tell your daughter and son in law that they are in over their heads, can't afford my house, need to save more for a downstroke, and need to leave you at home when looking at houses.

Well zillow makes it so easy with the market value next to every house. They probably know what houses go for in the neighborhood. Just ask MIL to make up the difference, problem solved!

Yeah, they had looked at somewhere around a dozen homes. The wife hated them all. According to my friend, his wife "LOVED MY HOUSE". He mentioned the condition of the others, all the work needed, the lack of central air in many, he even bitched about the color of the walls(Really? Paint is cheap).

I'd take the deal because I just prayed that you'd give me the house for free. #prayerworks

Are you considering an open house and if so, will there be a list and a sharpie, charging stations and $1.00 bottles of water? I hear it’s hot there in July/August and I need to know because I’m not paying $4.00 for a bottle of water and I need my phone so I need to know if I can charge it. So, will there be charging stations or not? And who gets access first? There’ll be a list, correct? When does the line up start? Can we take bathroom breaks? Go for lunch or dinner and come back? Is it safe at night? I like to camp out but I really, really need charging stations for my phone. Oh, one last question, should I bring cash for the deposit? If so, how long do you hold it if I’m not the successful bidder. Ok, that was two questions, LOL. Let me know about the charging stations, k? Ok, bye.
I admittingly don't know all that much about Medicare. That will soon change in the next 24 hours, as I will educate myself.
1st thing I have become aware of? I have to pay a separate premium for prescriptions, on top of my regular A and B cost of Medicare? Typical A-B Medicare does not cover prescriptions?
Interesting

1st guy. Wasn't happy with the $10k discount off the asking price. "Can't you do any better than that?"
2nd guy. In 6 months time had not worked on a realtor, a pre-approval, no contact with a bank, etc. Oh yeah, they also just recently QUIT their job.
OK let's move on. Hahahaha
