Haha!  I don't think his personal hygiene habits would go over so well with the rest of the band while on the road.

Watching the YouTube video of the ending of the 5/18 show in Pittsburgh makes me think that this was already decided pre Spring 2025 tour.  Everyone specifically embraces Matt at the end, so it sure looks like they all knew.

Wow... From the way this is written and the band's response, it definitely feels like there's more to the story. Regardless, I wish him the best—he’s clearly talented and shouldn't have any trouble finding new opportunities. Hoping the band finds a drummer who brings fresh energy to this next chapter!

Since he has given no reason for leaving the band; I would say the likelihood of there being more to the story is 100%. The possibilities are endless.
I completely agree with this. Neither side even hinted at the "why." Could be simple, could be complex.
Correct, he said all he could..

good lord, Dave A. The guy is STILL, to this very day, complaining online about how Ed and the band treated him. And he says openly he hates the band's music now. No chance he'd be invited back at this point.
This. And how many posts will there be hoping Dave rejoins the band?

Seeing as there are multiple threads I'm happy to delete this thread, but how....???
Don’t worry the Karen police of this board will start directing people by posting the link and thinking they are saving the world. (And who cares how many threads are up, seriously)
karens of the board? saving the world? just helps to keep the conversation flowing in one spot, that's all. so sorry I chuffed your panties.
Hugh Freaking Dillon is currently out of the office, returning sometime in the fall

Chad Smith would be AWESOME. But I’m sure they want a full time member.

Krusen would be great too if he’s up to the task.

Jack left the first time due to the touring schedule. That’s not gonna work.

    Dave A…. lol

    What’s Matt Chamberlain doing? 😂

Agree Josh isn’t a full time drummer.

Realistically they have social connections and will pick a guy they like. Who’s ready to learn 35 years of catalogue??

I wonder how long they knew….🤔

    The distance to the end
Is closer now than it's ever been
    Road we traveled far
All the lights and sights we saw
No room left on the pages
We filled 'em up and painted some
Though the book, it may never be read
Oh, by anyone, oh, anyone but me

And I hope the people are smiling
And I hope that today and every day is grand
Oh, I apologize, so sorry 'bout the timing
But you know, something that I never had was the upper hand

at least Matt had the ‘upper hand’ to leave on his own accord

Was the spring run planned in order to give Matt a farewell mini tour?? There was no reason for them to tour the states again after ‘24 and hitting Oz.

    I wonder….

In any event, MC will be sorely missed. He held the band together in some ways after Jack had to depart. I think he helped them all turn a page, so to speak. The stability and workman like attitude, his approach to songwriting, etc. We were lucky to have enjoyed his contributions for so long.

I just realized he'll never play Dark Matter songs ever again. He drummed his absolute ass off on that album, and man, it'll take whichever drummer who comes in a lot to play 50% as good as he does on it....

  • Wow!!  Absolutely shocked to see this news earlier.  Trying to process and come to grips with everything.  Reading through all the comments helped.  Head is still spinning though to formulate much.

Looked back over my 5/18 pics from the shows end and could see some of the hugs, but the video cements it to me that the band all knew this news at the time.

Here I was bummed about the possibility of no live shows for the next 12-18 months. Never considered the mighty MFC would depart and PJ would need another drummer.

So glad though to catch see the final show and so many in '24 and '25.  My first ever PJ show was in '98 so all I've ever seen is Matt behind the kit - hard to imagine anyone else behind there. Thankful though for each and every show and wish MFC well!!

I was just thinking this. Maybe he said towards the end of last year that he was done. They asked him to do one final run to allow him a victory lap. That’s great if they did and glad I got one more show. Thanks for everything MFC!!!!

Wow, I wasn’t expecting this news even though in the back of your mind there is always that pestering thought the ride has to eventually come to an end. As many have said, it’s retirement age for some folks.

Thank you Matt for everything you’ve given this band and us. All the best to you and your next endeavor. You will be missed on that stage.

I wouldn't be surprised if they knew throughout the whole DM era that this was going to be their last go around w/ Matt.

The more I think about it the more pessimistic I get that the trajectory from here forward is flat, much less up. Feels like an inflection point.

Maybe Dark Matter (and the DM Tour) was always about Matt.  Interesting.

Damn this is a bummer. I always appreciated the power/energy that Matt brings.  While I get the vibe of Jack Irons, he never had the hard-rock intensity that I wanted out of PJ.  Now that I'm older and appreciate No Code more than I did at the time, I'd be open to Jack coming back and seeing if things could get a little weird again.

Eddie did say “in a year or two when we’re back at this mic”. When they clearly knew Matt’s intentions. Figure that’s enough time for a scheduled break and then finalizing next drummer, then next plans.

For new music, Eddie also semi-jokingly/serious said Dark Matter would be their last one. (Forget the context.)

I'm 100% in on the "they've known for a while" train now after watching that video. Makes me feel way better about it, because it means they've had the final lap with him, and have taken the time to think about it before making the official announcement

To be optimistic, if they only had 1-2 years left, and that was known.... don't you think MC would have hung on for the last year or so?

I think theres 5+ years and 1 more album still in the band.

If they can get to PJ40 (in 6 years), then they should consider a mega, worldwide PJ40 Tour and then maybe hang it up
