Mason and I started working together on what was essentially a blind date. Our mutual friend Dan Field thought our pairing was an inspired idea. Over a decade later, I think Mason and I would both agree.
Magnifier is Mason’s third solo album released on Loosegroove. Along with three Painted Shield albums, we’ve been building a cool body of work. I’m honored and grateful that we’ve remained partners through it all.
In my opinion, Magnifier represents the apex of Mason’s artistic journey at Loosegroove. Recorded entirely at his home in upstate Minnesota...mostly in the quiet, wee hours of the morning...this is his most intimate, distilled, and realized music to date. Mostly just guitar, piano, and voice, these songs feel like they’ve been pulled straight from the classic American songbook. I willfully compare his work to that of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Hank Williams. The starkest arrangements and poetry, with the most profound impact.
Thank you, Mason, for continuing to excavate these loving, honest, and vulnerable landscapes. @masonjennings
How the Seattle-based poet and keyboardist found her true voice through improvisation, plus Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard explains why Davis's talent helped revive his independent label after twenty years.
Thank you to Mason Jennings for signing copies of Magnifier on red vinyl for us! These are now in our Signed Records Endcap and we can ship some too. One per person.
