Got out to the Mets game last night. What a treat to see a complete game shutout. So rare nowadays. The energy at the ballpark was special. Place was jam packed.
I was there too Peterson was dominant 1st complete game by a Met since 2019 and that Soto HR was a blast! Well over 40k in attendance

“first since 2019” is crazy. Marichal used to throw 30 a year. In fact, Juan has more CG’s than W’s.

Exactly we were talking about afterwards same with Seaver he had a lot of complete games! I thought for sure once he gave up two hits in the 8th he was done for the night so to see him come out for the 9th was a big surprise

That’s nuts that you were there too! What a small world. It’s been an incredibly fun season to watch. Team feels special and the place has been packed.

231 for Seaver; 244 for Marichal. Now, as Verlander says, it’s usually “five and fly.”

Man, that's nothing: Cy Young had 749 CG's=LOL

It sucks that a CG nowadays are so rare. Watching a half dozen pitchers pitch for each team in a 2-1 game doesn't do it for me.

You guys ever hear of Warren Spahn? 382 CG's.

The winningest Lefthander ever and to me, most underrated.

I wonder what percentage of his 363 W’s were CG’s. Gotta be damn near all.

    Fucking Yankees-Red Sox.

    Top 9th, 1-0 Sox.

Garrett Crochet going for a complete game shutout. He's never gotten an out in the 9th inning in his career.

    Ben Rice grounds out.

    Judge up.

    Judge was 0-3, 3 strikeouts.

2-2 count. Took a 100 MPH fastball on the inside corner. Was a ball, but could've been called a strike.

The next pitch was hit over the Green Monster, out of the park, on to Lansdowne Street.

This sounds bad, until you realize the American League is basically junior varsity, which makes this much, much worse for Crochet.

The Red Sox sweep the Yankees on Father's Day. They're 1 game above 500 and 6.5 games back. The Sox pitching is starting to get better as they heal from injuries. I hope they can continue their 🔥 hitting 👍👏✌️

I’ve never liked that fucker. Now, I guess I have to. Red Sox went off their usual script of being the d**gers farm system. I don’t mind losing Harrison or Hicks but Tibbs III could be a stud. Hopefully, not.

I've always felt Peterson was capable of it. I figured anyone who could strike out Freddie Freeman in a game like this one I wrote could do it:

the more I consider this trade, the more I don’t like it (as a giants fan).

in recent years, the best giants trades have been the little ones…hunter pence (kinda big), cody ross, marco scutaro, javier lopez. the big trades either didn’t work out or were disasters…joe nathan and francisco liriano for AJ (clubhouse cancer) pierzynski (disaster), zack (cy young) wheeler for carlos beltran or kris bryant. at least the giants had the sense not to keep kris bryant!

the giants have a lot of young pitching. they had three young guys in the starting rotation (including harrison) and at least three touted prospects in the minors. I was discussing possible trades just yesterday morning with a fellow giants fan. the giants desperately needed a bat, but my feeling was they should ride out the season to see which of the young pitchers are truly keepers. the giants weren’t and still aren’t WS material. I didn’t love harrison but, in some circles, he is thought to have the most upside. I was really intrigued by tibbs, too.

now, we have a fat DH on a long, expensive contact. In Buster We Trust, but I think this was a mistake. I hope I’m wrong.

I wouldn’t have been thrilled with this even if the Giants had included NO prospects. To me, Devers may be the most questionable $300+M contract in all of baseball. I’m supposed to be stoked and I’m not.

You basically haven't had a legit hitter in your lineup and you have the pitching to compete, and you just added one of the 10/15 best hitters in the league. You're good.

And you gave up nothing but unknowns at this point. These contracts usually always stink by the end, but so it goes.
  • tbergstbergs Posts: 10,349
Still very surprised by this trade and how little the Giants gave up. Wonder if they'll play him at 3rd until Chapman is healed up and then DH. I could see Devers lighting fire to the NL if he's actually happy now. Great player and in his prime for another 4 years. The contract only sucks if they don't make it to the WS. Huge offensive improvement.
    It's a hopeless situation...

Yeah as I understand it he STILL wants to play 3B and the Giants want to also play him at first lol, so not sure anything new there.
  • WobbieWobbie Posts: 31,132
He ain’t playing third as long as Chapman is healthy. He can be our fat, spitting DH.

Imo the only way Boston could redeem themselves here is if they sign Kyle Tucker.
