My favorite tribute album is "I'm Your Fan", which features various artists performing Leonard Cohen songs. It features R.E.M., The Pixies, Nick Cave and Ian McCullough (Echo and the Bunnymen).

Compilation albums for the Punk and Hardcore scene were a must back in the day. Two that I loved and one of them changed my life.

Give Me Back. It is where I first heard Bikinin Kill and Spitboy among others. I bought it because of Born Against. They were a local NY band. Just a fantastic album from front to back.
The album that changed my life and the reason I bought Give me Back was this one.

Flex Your Head. It is where I learned about Minor Threat and Henry Garfield(Rollins). Amazing bands like SOA, Teen Idles, Govt Issue and Faith were all heavy hitters. Another album that you just put on and don't skip a song.0 -

Yep. Not tributes, but straight up punk comps were great for teens who didn't have a lot of money. This was music we didn't hear on the radio, unless you were listening to Rodney on the Roq, who also put out great comps. These comps introduced me to a lot of bands.
