It’s a shame to see all this hate in the world. I think it’s incumbent upon ourselves, to govern ourselves accordingly, be kind to one another, and exchange in positive and productive dialogue. BE THE CHANGE WE WANT TO SEE. Rather than name calling and spewing hate. That solves nothing. But if you offer DIVERSITY of thought here, you will get pounced on.
The problem is, DIVERSITY of thought, is not welcomed. If you have a thought, opinion, experience, or perspective, and it is voiced here, that differs in any way by the majority, or by what EV has told you to think, you will be pounced on.
If you agree with what is happening to our country, our rights, and the Constitution then it WILL be pounced on. I'm scared to death every day about what is happening as a dick- tutor sells out our country to enrich himself
Funny that, at least in my professional experience, the 'diversity of thought' red herring is only ever trotted out by genocide denialists, climate change denialists, covid truthers, and nationalists. Again, this is only my experience!

In this case, diversity means you are either in favor of living in a democracy, or you prefer tyranny and dictatorship of rule by highly corrupt people who only want power and more money than they can ever spend. Yes, I believe people on either side of that divide have the right to speak their mind. But on the fan site of a band like Pearl Jam, if you think people are going to be receptive to support for tyranny with open arms, well... that's probably not going to happen.

Hey look guys ... look at my mosquito bites from this summer. It's all fucking girls gone wild bullshit. If every girl who pulled her top up educated herself and voted! And by the way, little lady, I'm just not turned on by that little thing. I'm into much harder core stuff. I actually like to shit on little girls heads just like you; that's what turns me on."

Regarding your original post, I believe diversity of thought is welcome here. You post (or respond) and others may respond to you. Then you respond to them and so on. I find that when conversations devolve into personal attacks, the discussion falls apart. If you keep it on point and respectful, you'll be alright. ✌️

I am certainly IN favor of a democracy, and certainly NOT in favor of a tyrannical dictator felon president.
AND, I fully support what Ed said in Pittsburgh and cheer him for using his platform to advocate for things he believes him.
(I recall that Ed also said something about getting back to debating issues rather than personal attacks?)… yes, he did.
Debating the issues and ways to solve problems that plague our world, open exchange of ideas, that’s how we advance and evolve. That is what I mean by diversity of thought.
That said, you have made my point.

I 100% agree with this statement. That said, we face some challenges that make doing this much, much more difficult than it needs to be. One challenge is that we are not all operating with the same set of facts (and there is no such thing as "alternative facts" -- those are called "opinions"). Another challenge is that we do not all (and I include myself here) possess enough knowledge about the issues that are up for debate/ resolution. A third challenge is a deficit of critical thinking skills. Fourth, there is a level of immaturity that enters discussions all too quickly -- where we have one set of standards for people we like and another set for those we view with contempt or disgust. (in the specific case that started this thread, Bruce Springsteen and Ted Nugent should enjoy the same rights regardless of how *you* feel about their views or their talent; nobody is being forced to pay attention to or listen to either of them)
A few weeks ago, I was at a protest in front of a Tesla dealership, with a sign saying that due process is a right conferred on *everyone.* A few drivers gave me the finger. A woman stopped and said "we have to get the fentanol off the streets, folks!" (it's fentanyl, but whatever) I've bee thinking about her comment ever since. Why? Well, I do think fentanyl and other hard drugs are a problem! There's a discussion to be had there, and I bet that, once we were presented with the actual facts about fentanyl (how it gets into the country, how much, etc.) that woman and I would have found that we agree much more than we think we do.
On the other hand, conspiracy theories are not facts. To have a productive discussion, we need to exist in the same reality, you know?
All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it.
