No, didn't hear that anywhere, That's really the only way I've ever heard the song. I've always wondered.-Jeremy0 -

After reading this thread, I had to listen to it. This has always been one of my favorite songs (of any band). As a "blossoming" pearl jam fan in high school (2000-2004), I randomly downloaded this song off Napster and I've haven't been the same since (it was actually the duo of Light Years and an acoustic version of YLB). I grew up listening to PJ but I'll admit, it was primarily the radio hits. When I first heard Light Years and YLB in high school, I was moved and felt something that was impossible to describe. It wasn't until I saw them live in 04 that I finally realized what that feeling was. During the show, I felt like I was one with the music. It was flowing through me... there was no time. Just the moment. Things haven't been the same since. 15 shows later, I just can't get enough.
Like many of you, this song has helped me through some difficult times and whenever I listen to it, I never feel alone. Without this song, I don't think I'd be the fan or person that I am today.
Unfortunately, I've never seen it live. At LA 2 and the secret Fonda show I was holding up a sign for Light Years... hope I'll have better luck next time.
And wherever you've gone
And wherever we might go
It don't seem fair
Today just disappeared0 -
Binural is the most under rated PJ album. Most of the songs are great. Its kind of tripie sounding. Get stoned and listen to it on a dark rainy day.I'll be back0

Fuck yeah, one of the best songs on Binaural!0

You go to a show thinking about all the songs you'd like to hear ... for me it's Elderly and Sonic Reducer. Crazy Mary (thank you, Boom!). All or None. SOLAT, Present Tense... Geez, maybe I could handle Last Kiss... Just tons of stuff going through my head as I lined up for the SF III show. They opened the Release, and "I'll ride the wave..." CROWD: WHERE IT TAKES MEEEEE!
Wow, ok, I'll be ok, so show is just going great, Hail Hail, Untitled (phew, doin ok) MFC, Red Mosquito, Unemployable, Sad....
And then they just cracked my head open and pulled my heart up and out.
I didn't see it coming. Light Years.
Two or three people around me asked me if I was gonna be ok.
And I'm pretty sure I will...
They could not have put a more perfect show together for me, sure sure tons of songs they could have played -- but the ones they did play....
Just right.
C'mon -- TOWER?!?!?! Geeezus! Third time they've ever played that and yer tellin me that's not Karma? (First song I ever played live...) And yer thinkin it's all cosmic special and what not. And yep, they play it the very next show....[sic] happens0 -
VEDHEAD27 wrote:This song is indeed so, so beautiful. I can honestly say it's the PJ song that has helped me the most. The comfort this one gives is unsurpassed. This song takes tears of sadness and turns them into tears of joy, smiles..... makes you extremely grateful for every little tiny thing. It breaks my heart because of how close to home it hits but it heals it at the same time, ya know? I've never clung to a song so much. :( These lyrics are beyond powerful. Having them carried out by this gorgeous, sincere voice just pushes the comfort to an extreme. The music is also so gorgeous and perfectly written. It's very uplifting & heartfelt. This is definitely a song that is reborn after you loose someone. It helped me through/and continues to help me through a humongous loss more than anything or anyone. It just UNDERSTANDS like no one/nothing else. It SAVES!
::we were but stones, your light made us stars::
::no time to be void or save up on life
you got to spend it all::
*sigh*
Words that are with me all the time.
If I ever get to experience this one live I already know it's going to be beyond emotional...and just beyond... period.
I can't possibly express how much I love this song and how grateful I am for this therapy, this strength that it gives us all. Fuel for the soul right here. A song to live by...a song that gives life.**THANK YOU SO MUCH PEARL JAM**
I'm honoured to have been by your side at SF 3 when you FINALLY got to experience this live. I could see how emotional it was for you...but also too beautiful for tears...and that is a rare thing. I'm sooo happy you got to see it at home and from the rail girlie. Also what a perfect night to get your first setlist too((hugs))

I like the sentiment that even though there's an unexpected loss of someone, their light still shines on through the people they've influenced, and in that way they aren't really gone. Their light's not gone - it's just reflected now :-)0 -

You guys can't call it LY. We all know that is reserved for Yellow Ledbetter.0

Light Years is one of the greatest things I've ever heard. Such an under rated song, one of my favourite songs ever.0
-
As I've said before, one of my absolute favorite songs of all time.
Have any of you heard the demo version of it? I'm curious to hear some of your opinions... I really like it but feel like it's a completely different song.0 -

I love this song. It's so heartbreaking and so uplifting at the same time. And therein lies the beauty of Ed's songwriting, once again. The more I see the less I know for sure. - John Lennon0

I always get chills during Mike's solo at the end. It makes me wanna cry every time I listen to this song, one of the most beautiful songs EVER written."Darth Vader would say 'Impressive'."

I've tinkered around on guitar and the verse from the demo can be easily shifted in place of the normal one.
Both are so beautiful, and they really do sound like completely different songs!Come on pilgrim you know he loves you..
