If I didn't know better and were only reading what is in this thread so far, I would have thought you all were talking about t as Pope.  It's like reading a MAGA take on the new Pope.  Read Heather's letter of 5/8/25, then maybe slow down a bit here.
Man, I'm not saying y'all are totally wrong, but this all sounds like knee jerk to me.  Anybody really research this stuff?  Is the guy really pure evil? Are you itching for a good old fashioned lynching?  Or did he change some of his view in the last 12 years?  I don't know, but it happens.
People, I hate to say it, but AMT is getting to be awfully goddamn thick with all the negativity, darkness, and hate. "A Morose Train".  Maybe let's not fight darkness with darkness.  Maybe let's fight darkness with light.  Strong light, not wimpy-ass light.
It's spring.  Get out and smell some wildflowers (or leaves turning if you're in the southern hemisphere.  They're both great this year.
Brian I expected this.  I couldn't find much on him but I do know he adopted the last Popes views on inclusion but this is the AMT and they love to knock someone down.

As a recovering Catholic, I'm bullish on the guy. Hopefully he's evolved in the past decade. We'll see.

I do think he's gonna bother MAGA types though.

I think that's where we are now (or have been for awhile). Not AMT specific, but US overall, when some things happen, some people on various sides rush to see what they find on the subject to "own/burn" the other side. So for this "thing", it's a mad Google search to see his past, beliefs etc. to take shots at the other side first and how he benefits their side, second. 🤷‍♂️

If you’re saying it’s rash and unfair to be critical of the new pope, that is fair. If you’re saying it’s rash and unfair to be critical of the Catholic Church, that’s a completely separate and IMO irrational stance.

    Just the new Pope.

Example is people scrambling to see if he aligns with liberals so it's "cry more maga" and if he aligns with conservatives it's "owning the libs."

Then on to the next "thing" and on and on...

    Good comments, tempo and DE.
I'm not an anything when it comes to religion.  If I had to say which religion most closely described me in spiritual terms, I would say Unitarian Universalist.  There is wisdom in all major religions-- as well as atheism, though I do not personally identify as an atheist as I believe in Mystery- the unknown and unknowable.
So let's give this Pope a chance.  My sense is that he cares about people.  And hopefully the planet as well.  Surely more so than MAGA's progenitors and many of it's staunch adherents.

I’ll be critical of any pope and any organized religion for that matter. Why? Because it’s the hypocrisy, nevermind the crimes committed in “Jesus’” name. All religions are flawed? Why? Because of humans. Spiritual? Maybe. Religious? Hard no.

    Spot on.
So often, we see MAGA types walking around claiming to be Christians while professing and doing pretty much everything opposite of what Jesus was all about.  If we agree to define a Christian as "one who follows the teachings of Jesus", the hypocrisy of so many of these MAGA so-called "Christians" is off the charts.

All I know for sure is that this pope is as sexist as the last one was when it comes to the role of women in the Catholic Church, and for that, the pope and the whole catholic churchin general can go fuck themselves.
