So, I'm talking with some friends about travelling to USA this fall and catch PJ at the same time. With them never releasing their tour schedule and a New York-date we are looking at New Orleans instead and Pjs festival gig ( ).

How is New Orleans? Is it a cheap town to live and eat in? Im guessing it's cheaper then NY ofc :)

Domestic flights to armstrong airport seem on the expensive. Quality hotels dont seem to be as abundant. Thats what i can gather so far. Hope it helps a little.

It's cheap compared to some other major cities, but you have the tendency to party more while you are there, so you will spend more cash.

I recommend trying to stay in the French Quarter, somewhere off Canal St. This will get you close to everything and you can take the bus to City Park for Voodoo. The hotels in this area will probably be expensive, but I think it will be worth it. I used to live there, so if you have any inquiries, let me know.

    Definitely not cheap.

I was there last year for Jazz Fest, so it was probably more expensive. I stayed off of Canal Street. I really enjoyed my time there. Great place to visit.

Try one of the haunted tours through the old french quarter.

It's been a while so I'm not sure how "cheap" it is now but I will say this, New Orleans & Key West are the 2 best drinking towns in the US. Much better than NY, Boston or Chicago. The food there is top notch also  .
So, What you Giving ?........ (Thanks Speedy, Alesek, & Arq+friends)

Dirty, humid, somewhat dangerous but there's no city in the USA like it. Food is amazing, people are friendly, the city is dominated by music and art. When i'm looking at the buildings and architecture it's the only city in America where I feel like i'm in Europe. It seems to be a lot less expensive than LA or NYC, i can tell you that. Most major cities are the same. Parking, etc.

It's a really cheap city, especially compared to NYC/Chicago. Most bars on Bourbon Street have 2 for 1 happy specials. You can get drunk for next to nothing ;)

Great city, unique vibe, would definitely recommend!

if you like to drink eat party, and also really dig live music, then there is no city like NOLA
IMO it's better than NYC&LA&Chicago combined

there is cheap food and drinks but i wouldn't travel from sweden to go to that town on the cheap.

name your own price on priceline, for hotels. anywhere in the french quarter

the swamp tour is pretty cool to check out as well

Drinks are cheap in the French Quarter and there is usually a deal if you buy more than one- unless you are going to the Voodoo festival- then everything is expensive inside the festival. Food, while divine is also pricy.
If you plan on going to one of the famous restaurants I would recommend making a reservation unless you don't mind waiting- especilly if you are in a group of 4 or more.
And the earlier you get to Cafe Du Monde- the better.
Use the trolley when you can- it is way cheaper than cabs- and more fun.

Anyone know how many days prior you can seriously take a weather forecast?

I'm flying in Thursday night 5/8 and have seen about 4 different forecasts since Friday, 5/2.
