How accurate are the lyrics on pearljam.com?

The In Hiding lyrics are posted as:

I shut and locked the front door
No way in or out
I turned and walked the hallway
And pulled the curtains down
I knelt and emptied the mouth of every club around
But nothing's sound, nothing's sound

I'd stay but my last tab left me

I've listened closely and IMO I'm pretty sure eddie is singing:

I STAYED here where my last STEP left me

I'm not saying I'm right, but the lyrics I hear definately make more sense. For example, empty the mouth of every PLUG around means umplugging the phone and tv etc. Club doesn't make any sense. Any thoughts?

    TSIS says "plug" but who knows. Hell I still have trouble with corduroy gettin it right from what I always thought it was compared to what is really sung.

    i would think since pearljam.com is THE *official* pearl jam site, that any lyrics they post there...are as ed wrote em. as others have mentioned, ed tends to change/forget/rework lyrics often...and let's face it, he can be rather incoherent at times....so i definitely look to pearljam.com as the final say of what the lyrics were originally in any case. :)

    I just noticed this weekend that in the lyrics for Indifference that come with the CD it says "play v3" but Ed sings "play C3". Maybe he just changes his mind after he writes them?

    I'm guessing he's saying V3 because that could mean the third track off of Vitalogy, Not for You. It's obviously a reference to a punchcode for a jukebox, but I bet Ed is saying play Not for You and "let the song protest".
