Layne Staley song

I have not been around the board in along time, so please excuse me for my ignorance, but i was wondering........around the time the band relesaed Riot Act there was a whispering that the album would contain a song written about layne staley. Then i heard the band decided not to release the song. My question is.......is the hidden track on Lost Dogs the Layne staley song?

    I think so, yes.
    &&&&&&&&&&&&&&
  • there are two different versions of lost dogs. they're exactly the same, except for the now-not-so-hidden song.

    the version i bought here in europe has the layne staley song.
    the version i downloaded a few weeks before i could bought the album and which i believe (i can be wrong, of course) is what you US folks have there has a song called, untitled it has nothing to do with the one in live on two legs.

    here are them:

    http://www.theskyiscrape.com/song_menu/lyrics.php?id=787 -> untitled
    http://www.theskyiscrape.com/song_menu/lyrics.php?id=786 -> 4/20/02

    hope it clears things up for you

    Yes, the bonus track on Lost Dogs, "4/20/02", is about Layne Staley.

    Actually the US version has 4/20/02 on it as well. It's the Japan version that has Untitled on it, which, may I add, is absolutely incredible. Nearly made me cry when I first heard it.

    Peace
  • Now don't get me wrong but what on earth is the point of releasing different songs on the same album to different countrys. This seems especially silly on an album such as lost dogs which basically ties ups loose ends and saves people having to spend a fortune tracking down rareites. Now if I want to be a completeist I need to splash out on a japanese import. Oh well.
  • the lyrics to this song are very angry and blunt...i love it, but don't you think they are a little out of character?
    and who specificly do you think he is refering to?(in regards to those that sound like Staley)

    My wife and I got married on April 20, 2002. I remember I was watching CNN that morning at our hotel, and I saw the news that Layne Staley was found dead that same morning. It really sucked to receive such horrible news on an otherwise great day for our families. Nonetheless, I think it's cool Pearl Jam made a song regarding Layne's passing. I've heard that Layne and Mike McCready were good friends due to their Mad Season days. I wish Layne, Weiland, and Cornell were still around. They're certainly missed!
