The Gossard/DiFranco team-up, “The Message,” follows the 2022 one-off “Disorders,” proceeds from which were donated to the National Network of Abortion Funds. Both songs sport contributions from Pearl Jam producer Josh Evans and the musicians Skerik and Stanton Moore.
“It’s one of those songs where I didn’t know what what was going to come back, and I just am so, so impressed with what Ani did with it,” Gossard tells SPIN of “The Message.” “She made this real universe around an instrumental track we sent hr. It doesn’t sound like a typical song for her and it doesn’t sound like a typical song for me. It’s new territory.
Ani DiFranco shares “The Message” a new track with Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard, on Loosegroove Records/Righteous Babe Records. This is the second collaboration from DiFranco and Gossard who previously released “Disorders” in 2022. Sung by DiFranco, the track features Gossard (guitar), Stanton Moore (percussion), Skerik (Saxophone) and Josh Evans (keyboards). Watch the atmospheric video HERE.
About “The Message” Gossard says, “So fun and amazing to collaborate again with Ani, Josh, Skerik, Mike, and Stanton....what a groove and mood. Ani's vocals are transcendent ...." DiFranco adds, “the mood started with stone’s demo and evolved from there. super fun to team up with some badasses and pull a song out of the air.”

Stone and Ani DiFranco collaborate on “The Message”, also featuring contributions from producer Josh Evans. This fresh piece follows 2022’s “The Disorder”, with the then one-off track’s proceeds benefiting the National Network of Abortion Funds.
