Eliminating the bots: An idea.

in The Porch
Hear me out. It's not perfect and it needs some work, but how many bots would it eliminate?
10C members would still be allowed access to a presale to buy one or two tickets per show.
If they can't go, the tickets are sold back to Ticketmaster for a full refund.
Those tickets would be sold at the shows on the day of the show. The buyers would immediately go into the venue upon buying those tickets. Absolutely no other option would exist.
10C members would be allowed to buy one or two tickets, but would need to go into the venue with their +1.
10C members would be in a database with their names and address. When they bought their one or two tickets at the venue, their ID would be cross-referenced with the address in the database.
10C members hoping for day-of tickets could buy when the venue doors open. Members of the general public would have to wait until 20-30 minutes before the announced show time. (Oh look! A potential benefit for 10C members.)
This is entirely possible. The technology all exists...but does the willpower? Every sports team does day-of ticket sales. This would be nothing new.
I've seen some organizations that have policies where "holders of complimentary tickets must enter immediately upon receiving such tickets."
Maybe the only downside is that people who wait to buy tickets could essentially pick their exact seats. It'd definitely be a gamble though. You'd have to wait all day in a line in the hopes to get tickets.
This could be problematic for some venues, but I bet they all could figure out a way to funnel people in immediately after purchasing tickets.
A bonus? It might help out local fans as some people might be far less likely to fly to another city without a ticket.
Here's a sample timeline:
5:30pm -- GA doors open for ticket holders.
6:00pm -- Main doors open and "day-of" ticket sales begin for 10C members with ID.
7:10pm -- Day-of ticket sales begin for general public. No ID needed. This time could be earlier if the 10C "day of" line is vacant before 7:10pm.
7:30pm -- Show begins with opening band

No ticket the day of the show? The only way in would be to buy in-person at the venue where you'd immediately enter upon buying your ticket.
10C members with ID would have priority access for one or two tickets as availability allowed.
Tickets bought via anything besides the venue's official ticket outlet would be blacklisted.
I'd be in favor of picking up the tickets in person at the box office like the old days.
They're holding the payouts for all the F2F sales until after the shows, some of which are still 2 months out... they're making money hand over fist with this system, I would think there'll have to be more incentive beyond accommodating the 10C.
I too wish they went back to will call on the day of the show, but I think the horses have left the barn at this point. I can't see them going back.
Something like this would be hard to do for thousands of people.
I got to sit up front for a lot of shows on that tour.
St. Paul 2014 • Mexico City 2015 • Philadelphia II 2016 • Ottawa 2016 • Amsterdam I & II 2018 • Wrigley Field II 2018 • Phoenix 2022
Apollo Theater 2022 • Chicago I 2023 • Baltimore 2024
I do like the ability to transfer one ticket. Suppose I want to see the opening band and get more music for my money, but my +1 has a dinner appointment. I suppose I could be paged to the entry and let them in, but it'd be better to make it a one-time transfer.
The problem with going back to the box office is the incredibly ridiculous number of people who don't read the rules, put in for 10 shows, then realize their card gets charged for shows they can't afford to travel to, their bosses won't let them off work, etc.
"I put in for all these shows, not realizing I'd be charged $1200! There's no way I can afford all of them! Does anyone have any ideas?? HELP???!!!!"
"My boss won't let me off work to travel 500 miles that I won tickets for. Can I transfer them? I know 10C doesn't allow scalping? I only want my money back??"
If people had read the damn emails, especially the part that said this, we wouldn't be in this mess.
"If your name gets drawn, your card will be charged and there will be tickets for you at the show. No refunds, no exchanges, no exceptions. Do not put in for shows you are not prepared to pay for and attend."
