Tariffs drop like pieces of lead
in pencil points ripping boundaries,
and generational contracts fading
into unrecognizable cursive.
Today starts navy before expanding
into unrelated colors. Coffee brews.
Pen on paper. Music through the speakers.
My head jerks to the past few weeks or months
when today initiated. I sing,
Canada, and beg you remain polite.

    Each republican is sent a blank check,
    and orthodontia. The worthless paper
    has no takers on ebay, abandoned 
    like a mangy dog. The president plans
    sycophant-man statues, beautiful 
    and golden, pleasantly scented, smiling. 
    These statues of wax destroy themselves from
    the inside, and they frown. Kids who skip school
    fill their paint brushes with discount colors,
    and muddy the wax pools of legacy.

    Alito didn't read the large or fine
    print. His law books mold into orange, a once
    beautiful color, only half of death. 
    Alito makes Italians look gangster
    bad, inquisitors, fascists and cruel punks.
    Alito lost the law, our tragedy. 
    Alito lost because his stand floated,
    fizzled and faded away. Others brought 
    the case that jumped and curled into his lap
    before he backhanded it frozen.

    The breath of my paper measures ten syllables
    strategically maneuvered and formatted
    to twelve, a gathering of numbers. Ten thousand
    steps, miles walked, cost of diner food. The syllables
    of numbers interlace with blossoming colors stretched
    and dispensed throughout the day. Indivisible
    amethyst grey of insignificant mornings
    choices, white dumpling clouds plunking across hazeless
    blue, and turquoise concealed behind afternoon yawns.
    The day bounced syllables of green. The washed-out green
    of well-used fleece, a car a green I love to knit.
    The dead green grass of an eight-week January.
