what's a gremmie?

I was listening to Gremmie Out Of Control today and I realised that I didn't even know what a gremmie was. Is it a surfer who doesn't know much about surfing but pretends to know about it anyway? That's kinda what I gather from the song. It's such a cute song too!

    I'm pretty sure it means a pretend-to-be-hardcore surfer. The first line says it all: "Every beach has a clown who thinks he knows it all."

    And yes, it's probably the cutest PJ song ever :)
