Or Call Me A Dog... Sorry, that might be more insulting to you than anything else. LOL
My band has a song called Too Good For You:
'I'm too good for you
But you're still mine
I don't need you
Get your ass in line
You're wastin my money
And wastin my time
I don't need you
Get your ass in line'
Hope that helps...
chloe dancer/crown of thorns is absolutely swesome and beautiful in every way so it really shouldnt be associated with any kind of negativeness like a break-up. however, if you use it to make you feel better, there really aint a better song"I remember one night at Muzdalifa with nothing but the sky overhead, I lay awake amid sleeping Muslim brothers and I learned that pilgrims from every land — every colour, and class, and rank; high officials and the beggar alike — all snored in the same language"0 -
Definitely Footsteps... I listened to it a lot when me and my boyfriend broke up. Save You is a close second... it's weird how those lyrics were so close to what my ex and I were going through.0

Here's some contemporary one's:
If you like Audioslave... Be yourself is a good sonog to listen to after a break up.
And if you like coldplay there new single 'speed of sound' is about new beginnings.0 -

Ya.... I seem to be drifting more towards Binaural. It just seems the right mixture of utter despair and.... well.... not.0

armanHammer wrote:It's good that you have your own interpretation of RVM, but judging from the line "I guess it was the beatings, made me wise" and "the shades are raised" (when compared to 'Daughter') it's a song about child abuse.
Other Side is not about a breakup either, but whatever floats your boat.
Yes but what kind of abuse are we talking about? Eddie points to physical abuse but leaves it open so you can familiarize yourself with it. Go deeper with it. Its harder ever physical...
it's not the same without you up here
can't find my wheels
your absence is what breeds this fear
warm breath and all it steals
you can't know how it feels to be in here
all the dark horse fields, befriendin' me
playin' ain't the same without you here
we've come to hate the golden rule
cannot seem to make the dots connect
the morning light don't show you near
you can't know what it's like to bleed from here
the blackened world goes white, it goes nowhere
how can you not associate that with a breakup. Sure you can associate it with a lot. But breakups one of the obvious ones along with death and transcendence (most obvious)."And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

Like Ed says, make up your own interpretation. I think Other Side was not written about a breakup, but death rather.Riverside.. LA.. California. EV?0 -

Yes i agree on making your own interpertation. I just think that Other Side, even if it's about death, is good when dealing with a breakup or the lost of a love one for that matter. That's all. Ur right tho, subjective interpretations..."And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

Not to nitpick, but wasn't Otherside written by Jeff about his parents?

I agree with these two.
I dunno about the "COT should not be associated with a break up, because it's absolutely beautiful" ... i agree ... it IS beautiful ....
but lets look at it ...
for one ... it starts with Chloe Dancer which ends "DREAMS LIKE THIS MUST DIE" ... hmmm ... say what ???
then, for COT itself ...
we have lines like:
"say he who rides the pony must some day fall"
not exactly inspiring ... kinda foreshadowing badtimes ...
you get
"life is what you make it, and if you make it death, well then rest your soul" ... which also ... not the happiest thought ...
you have directly related to a bad relationship:
"i used to treat you like a lady ... now you're my substitute teacher."
hmm? rought waters , anyone?
and then of course, as stated
"this is my kind of love ... its a love that MOVES ON ... I'TS UNKIND AND LEAVES ME ALONE." ...
oh yeah ... thats happy thoughts.
"i wanna show you that i love you ... but does it really matter..."
And for CALL ME A DOG ....
it may be that cornell agrees, he is a dog ... but it's really a beautiful song, that he wrote in the spirit of forgiveness. as in: hey look, this didn't work ... you took a shit load from me, which i gave ... and maybe i suck ... but i'm still gonna call you beautiful ... or maybe just move on and leave it be.
you call me a dog well that's fair enough
cause it ain't no use to pretend you're wrong
you call me out, i can't hide anymore
i have no disguise you can't see through
well you say it's bad luck
to have fallen for me
what can i do to make it good for you
you wore me out like an old winter coat
trying to be safe from the cold
but when it's my time to throw the next stone
i'll call you beautiful if i call at all
you call me a dog
you tell me i'm low cause i've slept on the floor
and out in the woods with the badgers and wolves
you threw me out cause i went digging for gold
i came home with a handful of coal
but when it's my time to throw the next stone
i'll call you beautiful if i call at all
and when it's my time to call you a bluff
i'll call you beautiful or leave it alone
you call me a dog
well that's fair enough
it doesn't bother me as long as you know
bad luck will follow you
if you keep me on a leash and you drag me along
and when it's my time to throw the next stone
i'll call you beautiful if i call at all
and when it's my time to call you a bluff
i'll call you beautiful or leave it alone
you call me a dog...
chloe don't know better
chloe just like me, only beautiful
a couple of years of difference
but those lessons never learned
chloe danced the tables in the french quarter
always been given so i can't always make her laugh
but i'm proud to say
and i won't forget
time spent laying by her side
time spent laying by her side
and dreams like this must die
you ever heard the story of mr. faded glory?
say he who rides a pony must someday fall
i been talkin' to my alter
life is what you make it
and if you make it death well then rest your soul away
away away yeah child
it's a broken kind of feeling
she'd have to tie me to the ceiling
a bad moon's a comin' better say your prayers
i wanna tell her that i love her
but does it really matter?
i just can't stand to see you dragging down
again
so i'm singing
this is my kinda love it's the kind that moves on
it's unkind and leaves me alone
yes it does
i uses to treat you like a lady
now you're a substitute teacher
this bottle's not a pretty, not a pretty sight
i owe the man some money so i'm turnin over honey
you see mr. faded glory is once again doin' time
this is my kinda love
it's the kind that moves on
it's unkind and leaves me alone
yes it does
like a crown of thorns it's all who you know
so don't burn your bridges woman cause someday, yeah
kick it!
baby i said com' on, com' on, com' on, com' on yeah i said baby
don't burn your bridges woman
lyrics TSIS, of course. If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?0 -

This is from theskyiscrape.com
1. Jeff: This one started off being for my mom and dad. They've been married for 42 years and they've been my biggest inspiration. Over the couple of years that I wrote and reworked it, it turned into me and P. Partnerships are hard, lifelong ones are just absolutely mind blowing.
2. Ed: If life is a cruise ship and death is to embark to another shore, then this song is what it's like to be on the land while your partner remains out at sea."And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thrones is the greatest song to listen to after ending a relationship. Also Rearviewmirros is wicked too. What about MFC, it might make you want to get on with your life really fast, I know it worked for me.I Was Caught In Traffic!0
