Well I have come to a decision about this song..
While I love the song...i just don't like it on the Singles soundtrack. The best version I think is Unplugged or early live versions of it. I don't care for the soundtrack version I don't know why I just don't
I'm I wrong?
Does anyone else agree?

I agree with you, the unplugged version is my favourite but I think the version on the New York, New York cd kicks ass too.Kids - it won't make you blind and it won't stunt your growth! Go on, have a wank!0

wow, I'm very suprised, this is my favorite upbeat rock song, Black being my fav slower song, but I just don't think that this song works acousticly, I love the singles version, and from what I've heard live, only like the singles version, especially mike's leads when eddie sings "hey, na, na, nah, nah, hey that's something"! But all in all, greatest upbeat Rock Out Tune Ever!Hell; a paticular realm of the after life where they never play Pearl Jam0

i dig this song studio's version and accoustic.. I have it (accoustic) as #1 on my MP3 player ever since i got it.. the accoustic version has a real cool combination of guitars.. and eddie sounds really psyched.. the screaming and yells thru out the song: great!!your light's reflected now0

This song rocks all the way around.........
"State of Love and Trust.....As I busted down the pretext"
"And I listen, for the voice inside my head....... nothing...... i'll do this one myself."
"Lay her down and he priest does...should the lord be a-counting"
"And the barrel shakes aimed a-directly at my head.........Oh, help me......help me from myself......And I listen for the voice inside my head, nothing, I'll do this one myself"
"Won't you help me........help me from myself....."
I never heard the studio version.....but this song rocks on Unplugged!Opinions are like assholes, everyones got one.

I will have to disagree with you on that one. The version on the Singles soundtrack was the first time I heard that song, and I have loved it ever since. The studio version sounds really good, IMO.
But I do think that Unplugged may be the best live version of the song, at least from what I've heard.0 -
anyway you slice it.......errr, i mean anyway pj plays it, its my fave songThere's a trapdoor in the sun.0
-
Since i heard it on the singles soundtrack many years ago i have loved it. the unplugged version just kicks major arse but i like both versions especially unplugged in fact I love every song on unpluggedI will hold the candle till it burns up my arm
i'll keep takin' punches until their will grows tired
i will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind
hey i won't change direction, and i won't change my mind
how much difference does it make0 -
i agree and disagree with you. i like that it was on singles with breath... like what the fuck, two of the greatests songs on a soundtrack? that's why i love pearl jam.... it's so strange where they put their music... yet awesome.....
the acoustic version is fucking great and crazy...... however i love the electric... eddie's voice, the way the opening guitar sounds, the mike wailing....
brother123, have you seen the movie of the acoustic version? i think that might be eddie's most intense performances. making his fingers a gun and sticking them in his mouth... the look in his eyes when he's shaking his head
if you don't have this movie, PM me and i'll give it to you0 -
the unplugged version is unreal. Notice though his voice cracks on a couple of occasions, but i just think it adds to the intencity.-|

I happen to love the original, as it was the Singles soundtrack that introduced me to PJ. I've had many a dream of singing this with the guys.0

Isnt' the unplugged version of any song the best version out there?0 -
man~~~~that song is fucking awesome no matter how i have heard it. they could play that song "throwed off"and it would still be a Masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!!...It's only after disaster that we can be resurrected...
it's only after you've lost everything ...that you are free to do anything....(Fight Club)
... I'll ride the wave...where it takes me....0 -
This song speaks to me of good times, bad times, and the time in between. When you need somethin' so much, when there can be no end, there's a force you can rely on. Ya gotta find peace, and PJ's music does provide the solace. I'm grateful for the messages.
I wish I could give something back. Must be fandom.0 -
the unplugged version is too amazing...
it is one of my all time fav songs....0 -
cant argue with any of you, the version on the singles soundtrack was my first introduction to pearljam all those many moons ago, and watching the film, it still pleases me to hear such an amazing song.
but not long after i heard the unplugged and was blown away by one of the most intense performances i have ever witnessed then and now. both hold there own as one of the finest examples of one of the best songs ever.......thats alltwelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. no question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. the creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but alredy it was impossible to say which was which

Greatwoods 9/16/98 Version where Ed gets hit with Quarter and then goes into "SOLAT" Nice little change of lyrics.
San Diego 10/25/00 Best "SOLAT" of that tour
Yokohama 3/1/03 (my personal favorite) everyone is on that night and this version sounds so fucken good!
Boston 7/2/03 Has one of the better live versions I've heard also.Principal Skinner: "The students are over-stimulated. Willie! Remove all the colored chalk from the classrooms."
Willie: "I warned you! Didn't I warn you?! That colored chalk was forged by Lucifer himself!"0
