I’m annoyed because they were right there. What’s bumping up the AAV at that point a bit? Also, wtf do you do after this?Same time. You just lost the World Series with him and what else can you do after that.0

Yankees offered almost identical money as the Mets. Soto simply thoughts the Mets had a better situation for the next 15 years.Say that out loud Yankee fans.0

Holy jeebus. These contracts are wild in how long they have to offer in order to land the star players. The love he receives is the love that is saved0

I didn't think the Mets did. Well now Alonso will be gone. No need for him anymore.mookieblalock said:Yankees offered almost identical money as the Mets. Soto simply thoughts the Mets had a better situation for the next 15 years.Say that out loud Yankee fans.
I can not believe he chose the Mets... That short porch in right a Yankee stadium wasn't enticing enough?0 -
I just don’t think it’s much fun to play for the yanks.mookieblalock said:Yankees offered almost identical money as the Mets. Soto simply thoughts the Mets had a better situation for the next 15 years.Say that out loud Yankee fans.If I had known then what I know now...

That is just not true...total dollars were similar, but very different structures with AAV and the escalators to over $800 million. They presented the contract to the Yankees and they said no. He felt no connection to go back to the Yankees and he took the biggest contact.mookieblalock said:Yankees offered almost identical money as the Mets. Not too long ago the owners said they were stopping that. Guess they changed their minds?F Me In The Brain said:Holy jeebus. These contracts are wild in how long they have to offer in order to land the star players.
So lets see how the big contracts went so far?
Albert Pujols
Alex Rodriguez 2009 WS
Bobby Bonds
Christian Yelich
Mike Trout
Jacob Degrom
Anthony Rendon
Miguel Cabrera
Shohei Ohtani 2024 WS
Wander Franco...
There are more I'm sure but these come straight to mind. Only 2 WS among them. Strasburg and Rodon might be up there too?0 -
I will gladly eat these words.tempo_n_groove said:
Thats why i said Yankees, Jays and Royals would be good fits. Boston and Mets I just don't see. The Mets are like the Knicks, all talk about getting someone but can never seal the deal.Wobbie said:
Your list is all legit or semi-legit contenders. It’s not like we’re talking about the Rockies.tempo_n_groove said:
I guess playing for a contender has all but lost its muster?cutz said:
He'll go whichever team offers the Highest Contract. Simple as that?tempo_n_groove said:
Where would he go to? Come to the Halos so we can have one of the best and still suck!Wobbie said:

I have the feeling Soto is NOT going back to the Yankees…
Boston? Nope.
Toronto? Big nope but would LOVE that move.
Dodgers? No way they can afford that.
Mets? C'mon.
KC would be another great move but that ain't happening.
or Halos! Sorry, couldn’t resist.
Still can't believe the Mets landed him...0 -
You’re splitting hairs here. He only gets 805 if he opts out; which he almost certainly will not do.Cliffy6745 said:

At the end of the day, the Yankees offered 760 over 16 years and the Mets offered 765 over 15 years. Lie to yourself and say it was about the money if it makes you feel better.0 -
I'm annoyed, not salty. He took the biggest contract and that's what happens most of the time. It's an absolutely ridiculous contract that is over $300 million more than Ohtani in present day value. Add in he's going to be a DH for half the contract probably. Insane.nicknyr15 said:Yankees fans are so salty right now.
At that point with these dollars, I don't see why the Yankees wouldn't go there, but probably saw that Cohen was never going to back down.
Guess I am a little salty0 -
Saw a comparison to KD and the Nets vs. the Knicks. I'm gonna assume and hope that's how this plays out

He makes more w less years. How is that NOT for the money?mookieblalock said:

If Mets were a non-factor until the very end, yeah, it surely must be about the legacy and future of being a Met and not the money...0 -
At least he didn’t end up in Boston….Cliffy6745 said:
