So.  We have our friends and family make money any way they can and when they get caught doing something illegal you pardon them?

    Is this the new playbook?

We are turning into a banana republic.
New playbook? Did you miss trump's pardon of Kushner? The tax evader that is now the ambassador to France?
Yeah yeah and Nixon was pardoned too. Don't start w the whataboutisms...  I fully expect Trump to pardon wayyyy more felons.

It's just not a good look.
I only gave a whataboutism to counter the "new playbook" comment...it's not new at all...it sucks but I don't blame him one bit

Yeah the optics are bad but he did let the process play out. But fuck...trump says that he will pardon the J6 criminals and the magats were proud to vote for that so fuck them.
He only let the process play out to see if a pardon wasn't needed. If he got a good deal or not guilty verdict, etc. I always believed he was going to pardon him after the election.

I don't get the argument of "it's just tax fraud.' People get charged for tax evasion every year, and 2/3 get jail time for it.  https://www.ussc.gov/sites/default/files/pdf/research-and-publications/quick-facts/Tax_Fraud_FY16.pdf
He avoided $1.5 million and filed a false return. People have received prison terms for less.

    and he subsequently paid it.
Plenty of people get the IRS fine and still face charges. Happens all the time. Paying back what you stole from the government doesn't erase the crime.
Now I don't think he deserved hard prison time. But pardoning him before even the sentence was handed down after stating he would not pardon him is definitely a bad look. He avoided taxes, turned in a fraud tax return and lied to buy a gun. How exactly was Hunter being treated unfairly by being charged for things he admitted to doing? Because he said "sorry" and wrote a book about it its unfair he's now charged?
because the charges came AFTER he had already dealt with it in the case of the taxes...the gun charge was all they could find and it was pretty lame if you ask me. They just had to find something...ironic that the pro gun party charged him with that.
My understand is charges and fines/penbalities are not related. The IRS will issue payment with fees for any amount owed. Most of the time it could be a mistake, but fees are still owed. The IRS doesn't press charges.
If there was fraud determined, then the DOJ can press charges. Paying fees on skipped taxes does not exempt you from charges. Not paying $1.5 million in taxes is kinda a big deal, people have and do go to prison for less.

The pro gun people are generally in favor of enforcing reasonable gun laws.
If you want to go that route, wouldn't it be more ironic that the anti gun party wants to skip out on gun charges?

I don't think he should have bene pardoned either. But he was pardoned after he served his sentence and was released from jail. A little meaningless and a bit different from a blanket pardon from all crimes before he was even sentenced.
I just saw he was an ambassador pick too. Not a fan of that move either.

I could care less if Hunter was pardoned over tax evasion and gun charges.   But I do care that he’s going to get away with being the bag man for the Biden family international money laundering scheme. Trump should pardon ALL J6ers, b/c there’s not a damn thing that can be said about it now after this.
Wait, are we done pretending that it was ANTIFA that stormed the Capitol?  Can you update me with the new fantasy that we are pushing?

I don't disagree with that but the reason the charges came was due to the special counsel that Biden agreed to not interfere with. They knew that the IRS had issue with some of his tax returns which had already been dealt with. The charges that came about related to those would NOT have been charged without the special counsel trying to find SOMETHING to charge him with.

The IRS charges tax plus penalties and interest. The penalties can be severe if you don't file and owe a lot. It sounded to me like Hunter was taking "loans" from his business rather than payroll. The IRS basically said you can't do that and reclassified the loans as compensation.

depends who wins the 2028 election. if it's a dem, he'll pardon himself. if it's a magat, he'll get them to do it "on day 1"

Don't forget that all of the QtRUmplican sycophants are okay with every single convicted January 6th insurrectionist being pardoned.
