I guess El Con got tied up again. Last night I had a dream that I would get one dollar (woowee) if I posted the song of the day by 4 a.m. Of course, all kinds of things prevented me from doing that. Well, at least I can post this by 4 p.m.!

On a video I have for the 6/20/95 show in Red Rock, Colorado Eddie says something about this song. Right before they play it he says something like "this song is about getting your ass kicked, something I know plenty about"
That would be a good interpretation of the whipping.

WHIPPING
His songs about different people getting their asses kicked are some of Ed's most potent. Every PJ show I go to, I hope they'll play whipping. Is it permanently off the playlist now?

I think the best version of this song is on the Vs demos. I was really disappointed that they didn't put it on the record. And then when Vitalogy came out, it was kind of a let down because I didn't like that version as much as the demo. Still, it's a great song. And aside from being about a person being kicked, I think it's also about "us" being kicked around by society. The writer is saying he's sorry he sometimes pushes but he's being shoved from behind. And he's tired of that. He knows we have all had enough. But there are no answers here. This is more of a "getting it out of your system" rant.

Love this song...LOVE THE DRUMS...the ferocity of Ed's voice ("don't mean to push, but I'm bein SHOOOOVED oh")...the AH after "they're whipping".....
