AHHH! Ok, so I'm sorry that I HAVE to make another thread in here but really guys...this song is SO classic and sooooo incredibly kick ass...I just couldn't let one more day go by without a thread for the mighty beast.
I remember the first time I heard it. The day TEN came out...anxious as hell to get home and pop the cassette in my player. ONCE I did I had no idea what was about to happen, of course completely life changing to say the least.
The first song off the album and I was knocked on my ass. This main riff had my jaw on the floor!!!!! It still does to this day. GO STONE GO! One of my fav riffs ever, hands down.
This song is one of those truely classic ones that just stir up the 90's "combat boots/ stompin around like a lunatic/long hair head banging into oblivion" feelings each and every time you hear it. It soooo takes you back!!! KICKS YOUR ASS back to the early 90's! EH!
In true fashion, THE DREAM TEAM (Ed&Stone) delivered us a classic masterpiece. An ass beating to never tire of. Part of the legendary Mamasan trilogy, ONCE soooo stands out. Ed's voice is as fierce as ever! So in your face!! He just demands you to feel every sinlge word, every single sound, every single teeth nashing scream! Ooooh and when he hits the "uuuuhAHHH" part after "oh try and mimic what's insane..."
?!?! DAMN! *chills* The drums are TOP notch. When they first come in?!! AHHH!!! Those rolls too?! Fuckin amazing! HOLY SHIT and this break down is by far one of the sickest ones I've ever heard!! The way the drums and guitar bash up against/feed off each other is pure brilliance!
I just love everything about it!!
THANK FUCK the boys are still playing this classic beast & STILL doing a perfect job of capturing all it's sickness I might add! *bows down*
{{THANK YOU PEARL JAM}}
MUCH love for the MAJOR ass kickin that is..............
~~>ONCE<~~
i admit it...what's to say
i relive it...without pain
backstreet lover on the side of the road
i got a bomb in my temple that is gonna explode
i got a sixteen gauge buried under my clothes
i play...
once upon a time i could control myself
once upon a time i could lose myself
oh try and mimic what's insane...
i am in it...where do i stand?
indian summer and i hate the heat
i got a backstreet lover on the passenger seat
i got my hand in my pocket, so determined, discreet...
i pray...
once upon a time i could control myself
once upon a time i could lose myself
(you think i got my eyes closed but i've been lookin' at you the whole fuckin' time...)
once upon a time i could control myself
once upon a time i could lose myself
once upon a time i could love myself
once upon a time i could love you

I love the way Eddie delivers the words. It's just so harsh. Definitely one of my favorites.Life reveals what is dealt through seasons

This was the first song I really loved off of Ten. Even now, when I'm driving along and this song comes on, I turn the volume up and just feel so great. Ed's voice is amazing on this song and it never fails to make me feel better.20/04/06 ~ 23/08/06 ~ 09/09/06

A brilliant song live, my favourite version is the Atlanta Jamming oneA restaurant with a smoking section is like a swimming pool with a pissing section0

i guess once (along with even flow....) were the two songs that did it for me, that made me fall in love and got me totally hooked like i couldnt even imagine.
once just blew me away.....amazing, couldnt and still cant quite put into words how it did and still makes me feel. kind of an uncomfortable feeling in a way--and i LOVE it! hah. whenever i hear it (or even flow) i just feel exactly the same way as i did then.....totally in awe.0 -

Atlanta Jamming was a 2CD compilation of various songs from the 2 nights at the Fox Theatre in 94. I couldn't tell you which night it was, but he said "once upon a time" during the intro. Even then I'm not sure if he said it for both...A restaurant with a smoking section is like a swimming pool with a pissing section0 -

I have this old bootleg where they play "once", "alive" and "footsteps" in order and Eddie intro's it as, "out own little mini-opera." They have this odd beginning where eddie is like moaning, "what you did to me ain't right/ don't blame me problem child.cause i ain't crazy/ <then some other mumbled lyrics>". then he says, "once upon a time" and the song goes into overdrive. Excellent bootleg"It's the American Dream I am disbelieving... When the gas in my tank feels like money in the bank... I’m gonna blow it all this time, take me one last ride..." - Gone (vedder)0 -
Dude I get chills every time I hear this song. How he makes his voice go like that I have no idea! Want to see it live very badly. I really like the kind of vibrating noise the guitar makes at the end of the song... kind of this powerful feeling. Wow.Vancouver 9/2/05

Does he say "so this is act 3" at the start of footsteps and "the end" at the end of the song?A restaurant with a smoking section is like a swimming pool with a pissing section0 -
Amen canuck_rocker!! I totally hear ya. I agree with everything you said there.
I MUST bump this because a local radio station busted it out the other day and completely made my day!!! Talk about renewing some faith in radio. haha. Damn what a rockin surprise this was. MASTER SLAVE into ONCE!!!! Woooooooo!!! \m/ This station has been playin back to back Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Audioslave and PJ. I'm just in LOVE with their selections these days.Talk about a personalized station. Shit! When they play PJ it's not the "normal" radio ones either, which completely kicks even more ass!
HELL YES for ONCE getting airplay. Again, what a great surprise that was.
This song ROCKS!!!!!!!! The voice is just as fierce as the music itself. What a kick ass match! \m/

I like the version of this song with Master/Slave as the intro better than the greatest hits version, however the actual song Once is a great song. Guitar is great along with a groovy bassline. I especially love right at the end of the solo when Eddie quietly sings, "You think I've got my eyes closed... I've been lookin' at you the whole fuckin' time".0

The best part of it is at PinkPop when Jeff is running around with his bass0
