I wish Eddie would take Evenflow out for a while and add Light Years.....

it's my fav song that they sing!
A pessimist is a man who thinks all women are bad. An optimist is one who hopes they are.
  • it's the song that got me into pearl jam,too...it's so beautiful...i hope to see it live soon...

Light Years truly is a beautiful gem. I think it's definately about missing someone who has passed on and trying to understand where we go and what happens when we die.
Always reminds me if my father, brings tears to my eyes. :)
You can't know what it's like, to bleed from here,
The blackened world goes white, it goes nowhere...

    *****LIGHT YEARS******

I've used hammers made out of wood.
I have played games with pieces and rules.
I undeciphered tricks at the bar.
But now you're gone. I haven't figured out why.
I've come up with riddles and jokes about war.
I figured out numbers and what they're for.
I've understood feelings and I've understood words but
how could you be taken away?

And wherever you've gone and wherever we might go.
It don't seem fair. Today just disappeared.
Your lights reflected now. Reflected from afar.
We were but stones. Your light made us stars.

    With heavy breath awakened regrets.
Back pages and days alone that could have been spent together but we were miles apart.
Every inch between us becomes light years now.
No time to be void or save up on life.
Oh, you got to spend it all.

And wherever you've gone and wherever we might go.
It don't seem fair. You seam to like it here.
Your lights reflected now. Reflected from afar.
We were but stones. Your light made us stars.

And wherever you've gone and wherever we might go.
It don't seem fair. Today just disappeared.
Your lights reflected now. Reflected from afar.
We were by stones. Your light made us stars.

yeah I know what you mean girl..just reading this thread does make me a little sad b/c i recall that time when i lost someone close to me during PJ 2003 first US leg, and to get it on the 2nd leg, in Little Rock, I lost it.:( I cried non-stop throughout the song.

I know everyone feels this song, through a loss of a friendship, to a lost of a love one, to a relationship ending, there is always some healing in this song. Just put it on and let the tears begin to flow, but also share in the good times and memories you all have together:)

and i strongly urge for everyone to listen to the Little Rock 2003 verison of this song. Eddie gave so much emotion and heart in the song:)

    Awww! *HUGS* I know Nadi.
This song is perfect for that too.
Turning tears of sadness into tears of joy and making you feel so grateful for all that you HAD. :)
Still...you can't help but get emotional on many different levels, ya know?

LIGHT YEARS is really a prime example that this band writes music that SAVES!:D

And yes, extra extra things happening in Little Rock.

This song was one of many highlights of the St. Paul shows. One of my favorite off of Binaural.
“Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — ‘God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.’” - Kurt Vonnegut
  • The song taht I was hooked on when I was in college (2001). Love listening to it in the dark with my boyfriend. With closed eyes. Come think of it, thanks for reminding me about light years, I'm going to listen to it late tonight...

Light Years seems to me to be written to lost fans. The fans that flooded in with Ten and then faded away:

The song starts out talking about all the things he can understand, and despite these, he just can't see why they left. "Your lights reflected from afar": Pearl Jam reflects the light of that flood of people. They are the foundation that launched PJ. Pearl Jam was just stones and the fans make them stars.

most definately, reminds me of my mom.

Wow, yeah, me too. When my mom got sick & eventually passed I stayed with her in KC & I spent a lot of time listening to the 2000 bootlegs & Binaural, that song in particular... in fact that's what got me back into PJ after an 8-year break.

Fast forward to last week and the 3 shows in San Fran - I FINALLY saw it live and what did they play right before it it? SAD. I was knocked back into my seat by the power of those two numbers back to back and what they meant to me personally. What an amazing song, what a band.

And wherever you've gone and wherever we might go.

  • My favorite off Binaural. One of the greatest PJ songs.
"...Never take it seriously. You never take it seriously, you never get hurt; you never get hurt, you always fun; and if you ever get lonely, just go to the record store, and visit your friends."
  • thinking about it, i'd love to hear Ed do this one by his-lonesome (electric)....
