Yeah totally. Was it malicious? Na. Was it a catastrophic failure to read the room? Yes. So it's understandable that Jack took such rapid and drastic action.pjl44 said:I realize the D is more concert than comedy show but you can't ignore the comedic element. I have far more sympathy for what was clearly an improvised joke than an earnest political statement.Stars are suns to other people.

Jack didn't want to get cancelled. He would like to maintain his career.JT167846 said:

I saw Jack getting all the grief and thought it was him that said something initially. Sucks to be the famous half lol.0

I thought more about this. What isn't malicious about wanting a bullet to hit someone?JT167846 said:

Sometimes people just say stupid things they don't really mean. Not sure if that's the case with this scenario.. but you need to be careful in 2024 to not say stupid things. The world is less forgiving than it used to be?0 -
I was at a show once and saw someone wearing a Cliff Burton T-shirt with the caption "It should have been Lars." Very dark humor but I did in no way think this man wished actual death on Lars Ulrich.tempo_n_groove said:

For Lars I get that but for Trump? People feel very different.pjl44 said:

The fact that it's said in jest. If you've seen Jeselnik Boyle Carr etc they say some horrible shit in a dry manner. The irony is part of the joke-a reasonable person wouldn't say that and they believe themselves to be reasonable hence the irony. Often the audacity to say such things is funnier than what they actually say. But people are often disingenuous about the context in which these things are said and don't treat them as jokes to stir up controversy and get people cancelled all for the sake of more media attention.tempo_n_groove said:

With oft putting joes you usually follow up with something spirited or deflect what you said. Thats why they are comedians.JT167846 said:

They don't have to. Given you know you're going to a stand up gig beforehand you can safely expect that things will be said in jest without taking things literally. With high profile comedians who are known for using dark humour going to those gigs is kind of a caveat emptor situation as you might have gone through a horrible thing and they've joked about that general topic without knowing their audience's experience. But they're not supposed to and don't have to otherwise censorship would run rife and barely any comedians would survive. Poor attempts at humorous and malicious statements need to be better interpreted. Either nothing's sacred or everything is.
I'd still never have said it. Again a catastrophic failure to read the room and a poor attempt at dark humour that fell flat. Better to judge on consistency of behaviour rather than isolated fuck ups in this context IMO.Stars are suns to other people.
