LA crowds generally suck... and I go to them all... compared to Philly... stop bugging people who sit. So many people in pit last night near me(and no I wasn't in the middle front with the usual GA frequent flyers) were casual fans. One guy says he hasn't seen them since 92

    Some have to sit.

    Please consider that.

Sitting is for Bill Joel concerts. Get the hell up.
I’m 6 months pregnant. Please come and tell me to my face to ‘get the hell up’, cause I’ll be there again tonight, and if I feel like sitting, you bet your arse I will be sitting.

No ones talking about pregnant women or those with disabilities that make it difficult to stand.  Talking about whole sections of people.  These types of things tend to happen in groups because no one wants to be the only one standing in a section of people who all decided to sit.  Was at a Blues Traveler concert recently and the whole crowd sat the entire time.  The band was basically begging people to stand and the crowd just wouldn’t do it.  It felt awkward.
Personally I don’t care how someone enjoys a show and I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone harassing someone to stand up.  It’s always the people sitting down that harass those who want to stand.

I was front row of my section in Nashville. And I was standing, while everyone else was sitting. Needless to say, they were none too happy with me.

I hardly ever sit down at a concert, unless the artist tells us to. Neil Young did that a few times if I remember correctly.  Maybe Ed solo as well?

That said, I live in Chicago and have been to every Chicago show since 98. (Car accident in 95 prevented me from going to soldier field)

I have been in some great chicago crowds and some really lame ones. Lame ones were in the 00's, maybe?

Too many non-fans chatting in my ear the whole time. '23 were great crowds. Most of the wrigley shows were great crowds.

I have no problem expressing a differing opinion. The only thing I have a problem with is someone continuously telling other people that their opinion is wrong. Especially when they are on a post-concert high, of "that was the greatest show ever!"  If someone tells me that, I am not going to argue with them that it probably wasnt. I am going to let them enjoy the thing that made them happy. And celebrate with them. Never understood the idea behind trying to harsh someone's mellow.

I'm all in on standing. This happens any time Wilco plays a seated venue. Half the crowd stands from the moment they take the stage, and people sitting down scream and yell.
I once saw Jeff Tweedy hilariously tell people they can’t ask others to sit down at a rock show

I have to confess that last night in front of me were two people, mid-40’s and somewhat out of shape, sitting periodically to take breaks. In hindsight I feel terrible for letting it happen in front of me. As our friend from Chicago points out, this would not have been tolerated at the two Wrigley Field shows I went to, where, indeed, less than 10 people were seated in the entire venue.
"Letting it happen"? "Wouldn't have been tolerated"? What, were you going to fight them? Have them ejected? Why do you care if someone else sits? As long as they're not telling you to sit, who cares? Maybe they have jobs where they're on their feet all day. Maybe they have bad backs or bad feet.

I guarantee you that more than ten people out of more than 30,000 were seated at Wrigley Field.
Well, you just taught me that I can’t assume people will recognize sarcasm anymore. I assure you, what I said was meant to be so obviously ridiculous that I thought anyone reading it would see that. But alas.

To be clear, I was reacting to the dude who doesn’t like anyone sitting.

I think we can all agree that we like energetic crowds.  I personally stand, and I would rather be within a section where everyone stands and is into the show. But I think what other people are saying is that sometimes there are reasons for people to sit.  We are all getting older.  My wife sits for a while and stands when she accompanies me to a show. The guy with the disability in front of me sat the whole show. Life is just too short to get consumed with it. I have a much bigger issue with the rampant filming with bright screens everywhere, and sometimes even with the phone light pointing toward the stage. But even that, it ain’t going to stop, so I am not going to let it bother me too much. Cheers.

Doesn’t bother me if anyone sits, just don’t get upset at those who prefer to stand if you can’t see.

Jeff has a lot of fun with the whole sitting-versus-standing debate. He will usually be funny about it by pretending to be agnostic on the issue, but the subtext is definitely that he likes when people stand. "Don't postpone happiness" sums up his attitude about it.

I was in the building.  Truly an energetic and beautiful crowd. Sorry if that hurts anyone’s feelings. Be kind to each other. Can’t wait for London and Boston!
It was!  Maybe some sections in the upper bowl might have been sitting...  I was on the Floor (Section H) and every single person in my section was standing up from beginning to end, headbanging and dancing.  Much to the dismay of my wife who is 5'4" and could hardly see

Saw Godsmack in an arena ages ago and Sully was yelling at a guy in the loge to stand up. Turns out he was in a wheelchair. Hand to God I witnessed that.
I saw them last year and he berated people in the pit for standing and holding their phones up.  He said you don't have to mosh or get crazy or anything but he wants to see their faces, not just a sea of phones being held up.  I understand.

Tool does it right, you can get removed if you bring out your phone.  They have signs everywhere saying you WILL be taken away if you take your phone out to record.  (I think they have some warnings first, I saw a guy in front of me get taken out, he missed a song, then they escorted him back a few minutes later)

My friend, I was seeing Wilco likely before you even knew they existed, unless you were the one other fan at some of the shows I saw thirty years ago. Jeff has a record in his jukebox that I gave to him. A month ago, when Jeff forgot the words to "I'll Fight," he looked to me to prompt him for the rest of the song. Jeff and I go WAY back.

This will be my last comment on this...I had spinal fusion surgery this last December, prior to that I had been living in ridiculous pain for 17 years. Last September PJ played one of their best shows ever at the UC and I was there w/ my son who watched me struggle the whole night! I stood the whole main set and sat until the encore started. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if I could do that at 58 certainly whole sections sitting comparatively is a problem. Lastly, If you were there and think it was the best show and the best crowd then I am sincerely happy for you!😎
Ha! As soon as I read this I started laughing because I knew Vito could not make that his last comment!
The dude has an ego the size of Lake Superior!
How bizarre is the need to show everyone constantly that you are more knowledgeable than anyone else even if you weren’t in attendance?

Vito your opinion is just that, nothing more. Not important at all. Just a single opinion from some overly argumentative, self absorbed, rude PJ fan.
The board would be better off for everyone if you would just state your opinion and move on without trying to prove your opinion is above others and arguing with others who don’t agree.

As far as the topic, I’d prefer people standing but not everyone can do it all show. Have some compassion for others, it’s not all about you. I wasn’t there night 1 but night 2 I was standing all show in 226. Most of the arena was standing for the whole show but there were people around me that would sit once in a while. The guy next to me was around 60 and said he had a bad back and was standing for about half the songs. SoCal shows don’t always have great audiences but I thought the energy was awesome night 2!

In all of my concert experiences, nothing beats a Philly crowd.  LA1 came close to that energy level, but LA2 fell short and it seemed like LA2 had many more casuals, at least where I was mid-floor.  At LA2, many people I spoke to hadn't heard the new album at all, and so that explains the statues during Waiting for Stevie.

I'm extra motivated now to make the trip to Philly for those shows.  The genuine excitement from the crowd really amps the band up, and I love seeing the band get excited from our energy and they always deliver back an epic performance.  I highly recommend checking out a Philly show if you have the chance, as the crowd energy makes for a unique experience.  Just wish other crowds in other cities could muster up some more energy and excitement.

    THIS!

Although where I was located (Mike’s side N1 and Eddie N2) there was no shortage of energy. And I rarely turned to see what everyone else behind me was doing. Definitely would love to check out a Philly show, though. Their crowds in general, sports, etc tend to lean on the raucous side which is always a plus.

I guess no one wants to talk about the bootleg?
Everyone jumped on the slightly annoying screamer in Portland, but no one cares about the super annoying Evolution screamer on this bootleg?
Generally turned out to be one of the weaker bootlegs (weird setlist flow, the legendary mood drop after Wreckage into Got some), despite the fans sounding great (not as loud as the fans in Vegas or Vancouver however).

I bought the bootleg, but haven't had a chance to listen yet.
I was at the show, and thought it was great. We'll see if that holds after a few listens. But I don't see it diminishing the experience I had.

I bought the bootleg, but haven't had a chance to listen yet.

Just picked it up, I was also there and was in rare form all night up in the 200s. Only through Come Back so far and the outro on it was top notch. Haven't heard the screamer yet :)

Upper Hand is tremendous live. Waiting For Stevie has more teeth live and I loved the subtle Outshined bit at the end. The screamer is more funny to me than anything, just picturing that guy blacked out  =)

    After every ...... song.....Evolution!!  Evolution!!!! Evolution!!!! :s
