Picking one Allman Brothers song is like picking one PJ song, too many great songs to choose from. How about Done Somebody Wrong from Live At The Fillmore East.

With all due respect, I'd hardly consider Ramblin Man an old standard.

The answer (as yelled at the Fillmore east) is Whipping Post!

Blue Sky was my favorite when I saw them live that one time. But I think my softest spot is held for Melissa. Speaking of Mountain Jam - the festival - the Allmans are playing there this year and I'm determined to go. The only question is VIP or not VIP? Is anyone else going? Has anyone else been who would have any insight?

    Melissa or Midnight Rider

I believe Jaimoe is the only original member left. I was fortunate to see them in 99 on the 30th anniversary tour when Dickey was still in the band. Derek Trucks was still a teenager. Betts was a great guitar player and another rock legend gone.

Sad news. For years and years in NYC they did this yearly residency at the Beacon and I never went. Finally in around 2011 I decided I should go or I would regret it someday. I am really glad I got to see them. They stopped doing the residency a few years later.

And to answer the OP's question from 2009 my favorite song from them is Jessica. I adore that one.

This is a good article from a few years ago about how Cameron Crowe based some of Almost Famous on Dickey Betts.

I got to see them in 2012.  The next year was their last.  I was lucky enough to catch Greg the night I went as he was missing every 3rd show or so.

Yes, even when I lived down south I found it odd.  I did have friends that saw it as a heritage or "Southern thing" but thats a moot point now.  I also found it odd to see a Klansman dry his robe out on the balcony too but that's just me i guess?

I live in Texas and unfortunately it’s not uncommon to see the confederate flag. Go to a concert with any of those southern rock bands listed and they are EVERYWHERE.
