I'm rather stoked to find myself comfortably shifting gears lately.  I often have a tendency to focus on one type of music for a while and then move on to another, or even mostly just one artist.
That said, here's what's floating my boat recently:

The Baseball Project:  Grand Salami Time
    Blake Babies:  Earwig Demos
    Miles Davis:  Milestones
The Dream Syndicate:  How Did I Find Myself Here?
    Dexter Gordon:  Gotham City
    Nils Lofgren:  (first, self-titled)
    Thelonious Monk:  Monk's Music
    The Replacements:  All Shook Down
    Paul Westerberg: Suicane Gratifaction
    Neil Young:  Ragged Glory

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

Kind of reminds me of a Wilco album.

Hey Johnny A! After several listens I'd say, yep, it's better than their first album. In that way it reminds me of the AL Shakes' evolution from album #1 to album #2. Chronicles has a bigger, fuller, more experimental sound than their self-titled debut. It channels everything from Wu Tang to Prince, and is a plug-in-and-play album from front to back. Definitely give it a listen!

I played it yesterday - yeah pretty damn good. That Rock & Roll song at the end is really something.

I really need to sit down with the Alabama Shakes albums.

Sonic Youth: Daydream Nation.  I recently finished Thurston Moore's memoir and a book about Daydream Nation.  A difficult record that rewards hugely when better understood.
Lee Renaldo: Between the Times and Tides
Lee Renaldo and The Dust:  Last Day on Earth.  Delving into Sonic Youth led me to these two amazing albums.
    Richard Barone: Cool Blue Halo
The Bongos: Number With Wings:  Barone and Bongos are long time favorites I've been immersing in once again.
    R.E.M.:  Reckoning
R.E.M.: Life's Rich Pageant:  Two of my favorites listened to after a long break.
Juliana Hatfield:  Juliana Hatfield Sings ELO:  Jules best covers LP so far!
Neil Young:  Chrome Dreams.  Amazing mostly acoustic Neil.
The Bangles/ The Three O'Clock/ The Dream Syndicate' The Rain Parade:  3X4.  Four "paisley underground" bands each cover three songs by the other bands.  Cool concept and great covers!
